Reading books in the Cosmere be like:
āhey wait, IS THAT HOIDā
Hey, that's an awfully nice coat rack-GODDAMIT HOID!
Mistborn is my Orpheus & Eurydice. Every time I read it, I know whatās going to happen, but I always hope maybe it wonāt this time
Introduced my friends to the Cosmere rpg. We prep to play stonewalkers. None of them have read the books and know only what Iāve told them. I give them free rein to make their characters.
My friends INVENTS KALADIN STORMBLESSED
Hereās her character build:
- warrior who is from northern Alethkar, whose sister died when they were young and he vowed to protect her
- was arrested, spent time on the bridge crews before escaping
- gruff, asshole man who values protecting those who cannot protect themselves
- loves the idea of having a spren who reminds him of his younger sister
- named Dalanek
(Also the character is partially based on Ilya Rozanov but we donāt talk about that)
Two of my players did similar things. One of them is a mutual of mine here tho so,
ANA, DO NOT READ THIS!
You are one of the two examples but skip this pls
One of them chose to make a sheltered Veden woman who seeks out worldly sholarship while starting a relationship that ends very poorly, and lots of lies. She seeks the truth of her past, is an artist and does not know the political things happening around her. So essentially Shallan, she's even a lightweaver too.
Another player made kind of a younger Dalinar Kholin, family issues with an older sibling, climbing the ranks of social hierarchy through military service, betrothed from another country who gets blown up, leading to an addiction issue. And being part of machinations beyond his understanding, leading to him learning things men usually don't.
Both of them came up with their characters based on a broader description of the world and some cultural backgrounds.
My other two players are a Natan ranger who grew up with the listeners, and a Herdazian pig farmer called Ham (she is played by the only player who has read the books, and is delightful. He is having a great time at the table as I introduce basic world concepts to people and slowly peel back the veil of history).
Omggggg one of Lopens cousins at the table???? Amazing. Has he read Mistborn by any chance? I love Ham in that
I love rereading Mistborn because Vin shows up at the first venture ball and sees the super intimidating lord venture and I know that one day sheās going to cut him in half with a giant sword
"Brennan is the best game changer contestant" this "Brennan is so competitive" that
Okay well I've never watched in fear as Brennan hit a bong full of whisky for a game changer now have I
I think the important thing about the finale is that it WASNT fanfiction. It wasnāt this long, painful story tied up with a neat little bow where they live happily ever after, because thatās not the point. Crowley and Aziraphale love humanity so much that they know their own existence as angels demons is harmful, and they need to get rid of it. Theyāre in love with each other, yes, but itās shown time and time again that their greatest love is people. And they saved their greatest love, rather than running off into the sunset together.
Also!!!! They were SAD! They were constantly separated from each other, lived a life of pain and heartbreak, and scared to love one another! In this new world, God gave them the chance to love each other freely, and they took it! People saying that theyāre not the ārealā Crowley and Aziraphale are valid, but I also think the two of them would be happy if they could see what came of them.
Itās not a true happily ever after because itās a real story that has greater meaning than the two main characters making out, and art isnāt made to make you feel good. Sometimes its goal is to make you HURT so you CARE.
And to all the people mad that they didnāt kiss? Calling it queerbaiting? Bullshit. This is a gay romance, with far deeper love than two guys fucking. I would argue that this is more beautiful and deep and poetic a representation of queer love than Heated Rivalry (and this is coming from someone who LOVES HR)
The finale had its flaws, but it was beautiful in the end. And Iāll go read some fanfiction where the OG Crowley and Aziraphale live happily ever after because thatās what fanfiction is for, not the actual media.
coming online as someone who liked the finale
How am I supposed to go back to finals after that??????
As an aroace girly, I think people are placing too much importance on a kiss. Itās not needed when their relationship and bond does all the talking.
GO hot take apparently
Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.
And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"
I feel sorry for people who didn't get anything out of that stunning finale.
i asked chatgpt!! I asked gemini!! Well i asked brennan lee mulligan and he told me that i am not a monster and that religion is beautiful when it is a vehicle for love and faith rather than hate, and that doing my best is the greatest success criteria and that the universe loves and cares because i love and care. Oh and also that capitalism sucks and you should get in the comments!!
Iām just kind of imagining OP has a transphobe locked up in their basement who gets daily punches based on how many reblogs this gets
Bigfoot:
is a master of the art of kumite
(is so fucking flexible)
told everyoneās loved ones that they loved them
kickboxed government agents (& that one construction worker) to death
kicked zacky lee maple so hard in the chest that his bones shot into his heart and out of his back and he died
might be loose now?
seemed pretty solid
chilled out because of the megalopodarian frequency (and could be loose now)
mustāve invented kumite, is probably the source
just seems like he can find āya
probably an okay guy
showed up and a bunch of people died and disappeared (could be pinned for it)
thereās something like a god in him, could be empowered by more reverence
I donāt think Iāve ever seen Brennan do this with his face before. Iāve never seen a man so totally gobsmacked about getting called out.
rocky's crew dying from radiation exposure, something humans go to great lengths to prevent and are very scared of and ryland's crew dying in their "sleep" with nobody watching, something eridians go to great lengths to prevent and are very scared of. cool book that is easy to read through your tears.
cruelty is so easy. youre not special for choosing it
"The trouble is that we have a bad habit, encouraged by pedants and sophisticates, of considering happiness as something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil interesting. This is the treason of the artist; a refusal to admit the banality of evil and the terrible boredom of pain."
-Ursula K. LeGuin, The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas
"Evil is boring. Right? I kinda believe in the banality and mundaneness of evil. Evil is just selfish impulses, which at the end of the day are really easy to understand. Itās easy to understand why people do bad things. Itās like āyeah, ok, youāre selfish and scared and cruel, I get itā. Being good is complex and beautiful and hard." - Brennan Lee Mulligan
"How monotonously alike all the great tyrants and conquerors have been: how gloriously different are the saints." --C.S. Lewis
brandon has really good worldbuilding but I want at least a whole book on interesting ecology in the cosmere (excluding Roshar it needs a whole book by itself) . that way we can get info on how avian species adapted to the planets they live on. since horses got a cool and awesome evolution on rohshar as ryshadiam I think there need to be large birds with gemhearts and fascinating adaptations along with increased intelligence. itās only fair
#more birds in the cosmere #please #im begging you Brandon
HA
