My humble truth...
Addicted to Plastic
My obsession with plastic and the harm it can do started when I found out that one of my best friends has breast cancer. I began watching documentaries to further educate myself on the matter and PLASTIC kept being brought up! I decided to dig deeper... Now, many weeks later, we are in deep... The closer and closer we get to June 1st the more excited and nervous I become. My household has been neck deep in plastic documentaries and plastic research for about 4 weeks now and June 1st is the date we set for ourselves to start a (hopefully social) experiment. We have already been practicing, day to day, to cut back on purchasing anything with plastic wrapping or where plastic is involved. We have chosen not to eat out. We have changed what we buy from grocery stores and how we go about doing that. We now carry our outing beverages in glass jars or a reusable bottle. No matter how thirsty we are we still refuse to buy bottled water or juice to drink while we are out. Starting on June 1st we will begin saving. We will be collecting and saving EVERYTHING PLASTIC that we use. If we go out to eat and a waiter brings us straws, well, those are coming home with us. We will be doing this for the entire month of June and everything plastic that is considered waste will remain in a box on our kitchen counter. Every last shred. Every cap, bag, container, bread tie, etc. And we will be documenting our collection weekly. I just finished watching a fabulous film available right now on Netflix called, "Addicted to Plastic" and I am totally revved up about this project now! I think people would be shocked and appalled if they realized how much plastic they pick up and throw back into the world, the ocean, the earth... Day to day living is so dramatically different. It just doesn't feel like "that much" when we live day to day, using this toxic material constantly, in very small amounts. It adds up and has been adding up for about 100 years now. I deeply regret every single bottle of water I have consumed. I deeply regret a lot of things, plastic-related. But awareness is KEY and I am now well aware of the consequences of my actions. It's time to turn this around and help other's to become more aware as well!
If you don't think that global climate change (or any environmental problem that has to do with the ONLY KNOWN PLANET SO FAR that can support LIFE(US)) should be our NUMBER ONE PRIORITY out of all the problems that currently exist. YOU ARE WRONG.
Michael Jackson - Earth Song. Classic MJ track urging us to "Give a damn". Today the masses have been conditioned to hate more and love less. But what would our world be like if everyone opened their hearts completely to love.... I want that world ;-)
