Gearbox MkII: There’s Nothing More Geeky Than A Transparent Turntable
So cool! 😎

So I finally got a new sound set up.
Pro-Ject Primary Turntable
Onkyo A-9010 Amplifier
Mission LX2 Speakers
I’ve been collecting and playing records for over ten years but I’ve never actually invested in a sound system.
This is probably because a) I’m cheap and b) I’m no audiophile which seems funny when I love vinyl so much.
So when our last player died (Ion w/ built in speakers) I decided it was time to do the records some justice and finally invest.
Now I vastly underestimated how much a decent set up would cost.
After doing some research online the set up I chose what was described as a ‘great entry level kit’ yet it cost me a total of £545 ($703).
That was a little more than I’d hoped to part with but when I finally dropped the needle on the first record it blew my mind.
I never knew music could have so much depth, so many levels. It was like I’d been listening to flat music all my life up until that moment.
This might sound ridiculous but to put it in perspective I’ve never owned speakers before. I don’t think I’ve ever spend more than £4 on a set of earphones in my entire life…my mind was blown.
If this is entry level I can’t imagine what a top level set up sounds like!
P.S. Anyone spot the Gilmore Girls reference?
