Am I the only one who thinks the ProctorU software is kind of... invasive?

I took the LSAT yesterday and I think in part due to the pandemic, it was entirely online. Apparently this isn't something they plan on changing going forward. Fine, I guess. But Jesus motherfucking Fitzgerald Kennedy, ProctorU is something out of a god damn midcentury dystopian surveillance state nightmare.

I see my computer as an extension of myself. Having some stranger remotely controlling my mouse and disabling my antivirus(!!!) all while communicating with me in copy/pasted standardized test lingo about what I'm not allowed to do on my own laptop through a pre-y2k dark web-esque chatbox is an experience I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

Honestly, with everything being online now and all these standardized tests and teachers and professors all worried about rampant cheating and official testing services like ProctorU basically hacking into and taking over your laptop to prevent possible cheating so you can take a test and having the ability to shut it down for even technical issues out of the students control...

First of all, it’s only school and academics where things are not open book in the first place and you’re not even allowed to stray your eyes away from the screen for too long unless you want to be accused of cheating. Truly, think of one real world situation in a job where you are not allowed to fact check yourself by researching online when answering a question. All exams should be open book these days. Real life isn’t about memorizing info but being able to use resources effectively to find the best solutions to problems and being efficient in finishing what needs to be done.

Plus they are literally monitoring “suspicious” eye movement through recordings?!?!? They can literally have a student take the whole test, then review their movements in the recorded video after to determine if they are suspicious of cheating or not and SUSPEND AND REVOKE THE VALIDITY OF THIER TEST.

Like some people have concentration problems or anxiety or just simply physical eye strain and need to take breaks from constantly looking at the screen...

I get that the stranger actively watching you deserves more pay for more time, but also what the entire fuck?
