Divine maiden of the skies who held ancient memories that were rather flirtatious with that familiar old sentiment, they’d seduce that same old response she’d come to foster after their long journey in reuniting land and sky. Melancholy. As her subconscious would pluck at worn harp strings crumbled down by the merciless time the incomplete hymns would reawaken scattered memories of her time as Hylia. And quite the strange feeling it was. To be intimate with the unknown. While she’d long since grown used to it upon receiving the important memories related to the mission at hand, Zelda oft found herself at a loss when she’d unearth a new recollection upon one simple glance at a seemingly mundane object. Now, a mere look at an ancient flower summons the angry pounding of war drums to echo within harkening ears. A gaze to her beloved friend now brought a deep sense of regret and despair yet pride for all of his accomplishments nonetheless and she’d recognize that pride as her own rather than belonging to someone she’d once had been. It was unnerving, suffice to say, to remember both the good and bad of her past life. To remember that she wasn’t always the ordinary girl who lived high above the skies, with her head in the clouds as she lived her days in bliss. And while she wouldn’t trade her experience thus far for anything in the world, and while she can’t say she feels complete loss for losing that innocent part of her; she did miss those days gliding across the clouds with her Loftwing alongside Link and other friends.
Those days were long gone. And she’d come to terms with that upon being ripped out of the heavens. Now begins a new chapter in her life. Not as Zelda, the mortal who came from the skies. Not as Hylia, the goddess who’d done everything in her power to protect the innocent. But as her, the woman she’d become now as the result of her pilgrimage across The Surface. And with her by her side had been her childhood friend. And he’d always been by her side.
But was it his choice this time? Or out of obligation that he wished to stay on The Surface with her?
Peering over the weathered map that’d seen better days, he had been preparing for their little expedition journey beyond the budding colony and beyond the beautiful confines of Faron Woods. She presses her lips together. Uncertainty on Link’s choice still plagues her mind and at times she wishes to bring up whether he was truly happy with staying on The Surface, throwing away what was essentially his life back in the skies. There was no judging if such was the case, if he wished to return then she will not stop him. She’d miss him terribly so but at the end of the day: it was his choice. No longer was she that cunning goddess who’d toy around with lives if it meant reaching her goal if it meant benefiting the many rather than considering the lamb offered at the altar.
She was mortal now, after all.
“All ready to go yet? No rush if you’re not! Take your time, Link.” Folding up the map, she adjusts her pack, as though checking on she’d had the proper materials for this little journey. “But wow, to think we’re doing this! I don’t know about you but I’m so excited! We’re really going to see the place we’ve only read about in fairytales, our journey didn’t really let us see much of The Surface. But now... with everything out of the way, there’s no telling how far we can go! Who knows what we’ll see out there!”
