Hey! So I’m currently stuck between wanting to be a pilot and a nurse. 😭 Like sjsjdkdj s wHY can’t I chose !!!!
oh no! lets see if I can help!
Pros and Cons of becoming a pilot (airline pilot route)
Pros
It’s an incredible feeling, like nothing matters and the earth is so much more beautiful from up there
After you get seniority in an airline you can make more than 100k a year
There’s a serious pilot shortage right now that’ll continue and that means airlines are d e s p e r a t e and WILL hire you, and give you a 60k signing bonus
You get to travel
The outfit???
How cool is it???
Cons
the training is very expensive. I’m looking at about 75-80k for my licenses and 700 ish flight hours
It’s a lot of work, it’s a lot of memorization and practical skills
constant testing, for the rest of your life. Starting with license written tests, to the oral exam and the practical exam. Then currency checks every couple of years. Once you get hired you have less than two months to learn to fly a 747 for example
You have to be healthy. You need to pass a first-rate medical to work for the airlines. It’s not strict, all you need is a healthy heart, alright blood pressure, not be color blind, have glasses that’ll correct to 20/20 and have correct hearing.
It’s very stressful. you’re in charge of 200+ lives in a giant metal machine in the air. It doesn’t often go wrong, but it can and you need nerves of steel
If you fly internationally you can kiss your social life goodbye. When you won’t be flying you’ll be too tired to do anything most times
The early stages of training are stressful, everything is new and difficult and it can be scary
DISCLAIMER: All of the information here is from my professors and instructors at college and their personal experiences
I hope this helped! I don’t know anything about nursing but this is the stuff i wish I knew BEFORE I began. I hope I helped!! if you have any questions feel free to ask!!
