Trend Forecasting- Post Covid Trends, Professional Practice 25/3/21
When starting this research, I began by throwing out a question to my friends and family on Facebook, asking what they all plan to wear after the pandemic ends. While the responses were mixed, with a mix of lifestyles as well, I found an overwhelming amount that seemed to fall into the category of ‘Dressy but comfortable.’ This was what I focused my research on. I looked at the idea of relaxed-fit and loose fit clothing, leggings paired with blouses, jersey and knit dresses and blouses, and comfortable shoes. I also had several people who mentioned at one point or another that they did plan to continue wearing masks. I then went and made a mock-up trend board based on my visual research.
I’ve based this on professional looking clothing with a relaxed fit, comfortable shoes, and of course a fashionable mask. I wanna shout out to Megan Ricica Kennedy, one of my high-school classmates, for always filling her Facebook and Instagram with cute pics of her outfits, because this worked perfectly for my trend board. I also liked that she was carrying a good-sized hand bag, as I’ve seen a lot of these bags showing up throughout the pandemic, and I expect we will be using them a lot after in the idea of a ‘carry-all.’ I also looked at spaces that I felt fit this theme of ‘comfortable and chic.’ I looked at sitting rooms with comfortable colour tones, cosy couches, but good lighting and windows. I also looked at workspaces. I feel like since the pandemic, gone are the days of white, sterile, minimalist workspaces. I feel like we will be filling our workspaces with comforting colours, coffee and tea, plants, and our own personal decor. I created a small colour story as well. I feel like we will see a mix of bright colours and cool, neutral tones. Those who are conscious of their post-covid bodies will probably be wearing slimming darker tones such as black and navy, while I expect we will see other people who are sharing their joy with bright yellows and whites. I also noted that the Pantone Colours of the Year for 2021 are tones of Grey and Yellow, and so I felt this was also fitting for my colour story.
