Song of the Day (25 November 2019): Thank You Scientist - Party All The Time

Don’t let the acid dream-like video or the moderately silly cover song fool you, Thank You Scientist are a serious band. I guess they’re just eclectic in what they do, whether its progressive rock-cum-fusion jazz tracks with deep lyrics against falsetto vocals, or reimagining Eddie Murphy songs.

I think its impossible to doubt that the band had fun creating this track, and its just as fun for the listener, as prior to listening to the song, I did not for one second ever contemplate the logistics of how to fit a Zappa-esque musical breakdown into a track more discotheque than it is divergent.

With sincerity, the track pays a homage to the original track, whether in its handclaps, synth or hummed backing vocals, which emphasises just how successful the band are in its reimagining, effectively shifting the song to a new genre, and ensuring the track still has a personality.
