Hmm.. good question. Maybe one of the scenes where Clown is under the influence of the Blood Rampage (in universe name for the gas Blackhearts uses because I needed a name for it other than Evil Drug Gas That Makes You Kill People On Sight. not permanent cuz I don't like that name either) or if not the scene where Blackhearts puts Clown's cape on him at the end of trjc chap 2 ^^

hihi hope you’re doing well! i have a more theoretical question about clown in the program entropy au— do you think if branzy had never needed to take him out (either by murder or the events of trjc etc.) clown could have been a good hero?

like if life had just continued as normal, would he have just continued to force himself to be good or at what point would he reach his breaking point?

totally cool if you don’t fully know, was just curious after i was discussing branzy’s overarching effect on the narrative with a friend!

Hii Threepens! You raise a really interesting question, actually.

If the events of card series never happened, I think Clown would've honestly stayed as a hero, yes. He's already been doing his job for a long time, and though he doesn't like it he did get used to it. Had Branzy never intervened, he'd still be a hero and it would take a big event to ever convince him to stop being one.

Key word being would need another big event. Which. Well. If you factor in the events that will (or are supposed to, anyways, since I'm very slow at writing it) take place regardless of whether or not jester card happens, I think Clown would've died a "hero". unless another alternate route happens.

There's a very small list of things I think would make him leave without Branzy. I think it's certainly possible, but the main thing that would have to happen is that he has to be given a path to it. Clown, before the events of jester card, didn't really see a way out of the life he was in, because if he left the hero commission, he'd lose the very little protection he has – he knows most heroes already hate him, as well as a lot of villains, so he's kinda like. Dead. if he leaves. And he knows that.

Without a proper alliance/side to switch to (in trjc it was Blackhearts and the Death Syndicate. Clown thought the risk was excusable because he feels that Blackhearts won't kill him/won't let him die to other forces as long as they still needs him) or a proper escape/place to hide he would not risk leaving. Unless things got reaaaally bad.

If he had a safe place to leave to and assurance that the commission won't hunt him down for leaving, he honestly would leave. However, I don't think he would become a villain in that scenario. That final acceptance of villainy in trjc is something Blackhearts had to sorta pry out (and he still doesn't fully "enjoy" it, per se) since hero clown thinks what he's doing is vile and repulsive, part of the reason why he doesn't like his job as a hero.

TDLR final answer is without Branzy, I think there's very little that would've made him leave, and even less that would've led gim to becoming a villain. It doesn't fully rule it out, however, as there are big events that would've happened with or without Blackhearts' influence and those have the chance of fucking up Clown's psyche, though not in the same way Blackhearts does.

can't sleep so I'm forcing myself to continue Program Entropy. Jonorth and Rivendell brothers focus oneshot that has been in the works and perpetually at 15k words for like 4 years now.

Maybe I can actually get something out soon and revive my work on this AU. There's a decent backlog of like 40k words in like 10 seperate wip oneshots but this is supposed to be the 3rd oneshot in the series
