Tell me this isn’t a worthwhile Hanna-Barberian idea for HBOMax
As if the upcoming Hanna-Barbera reboot Jellystone! wasn’t good enow for most of us Old Hanna-Barberians to subscribe to HBOMax for, might I suggest for the sake of light filler a series of “fly-on-the-wall” profiles of classic Hanna-Barbera characters which would be narrated by the very subjects “themselves,” which could have some worthwhile insights into the much-loved byproducts of 3400 Cahuenga which may not have made their way into the original backstory. Perhaps including insights from fellow characters close to the subject being profiled.
A few such as are already on my mind could include:
Squiddly Diddly showing himself in post-Bubbleland mode as an underwater photographer, mainly with a second-hand Nikonos (the first underwater camera to have its own built-in housing)
Cindy Bear explaining her trying to be a stabilising influence on Yogi
Yogi Bear “himself” explaining his notoriety for stealing tourist pic-a-nic baskets perhaps being wrought by his losing his mother to a fight over mating rights by some notoriously aggressive males of Jellystone Park
Doggie Daddy perhaps being a little more caring to his Augie Doggie than could be expected, perhaps a credit to Augie’s mother having died during a rather difficult whelping
Snagglepuss trying to be as much a playboy and bon vivant while giving Major Minor a hard time with such sophistication
Loopy De Loop, not quite “the good wolf” yet finding time to run a hobbyist-type maple sugar bush in Quebec’s Estrie (Eastern Townships) producing some legendary soft maple sugar (including a tour through the sugar bush)
The clowder of Top Cat, sharing as much some inner jealousies as friendships among themselves as much as TC
Magilla Gorilla on his own life post-Peebles Pet Shop
Peter Potamus on a fondness for wanderlust such as could make Bill Burrud jealous and envious, what with his Magic Balloon and his leading a crew of somewhat intrepid SCUBA divers
The Cattanooga Cats “themselves,” still mixing music with a sense of whimsy--and a coffee house and roastery in Gatlinburg with all-comers-welcome talent shows aiming at especially the summer help in the Smokies
The Hair Bear Bunch “themselves” going beyond (and after) the Wonderland Zoo, and having a joie de vivre all to themselves
Could you think of a few other characters worthy of such a profile treatment, and what kind of eccentricities, what traits of character even, could you picture in such a series of profiles as thus imagined?
