The Composite Bible: Hebrews
The Composite Bible: Hebrews The Composite Bible is an effort to encourage more literal study of the Bible, while at the same time realizing that the less literal versions are more easily read. Also, the mind works differently when one version is read, when two are compared, or when three are addressed at the same time. When one is read, insight and understanding are the objective. If two are read together a comparison is made and the differences in wording is taken into account. Should the student choose to read all three, there is a tendency to coalesce what has been read into an overall concept. Once this concept (or composite) has been realized, the less literal version becomes more alive with meaning. In short, this method of study addresses progression from the less to the more literal, thereby gaining a greater insight into the text itself. The text of Scripture is meant to be a living interactive force within the life of the student, not just words on a page. So, when studying, ask yourself: 1. What does it mean? 2. How does it affect me Spiritually? 3. What do I intend to do about it? Take notes, read it aloud, think about the meaning of the book, the chapter and each pericope. Both the less and more literal versions of the Bible are worthwhile and this composite progressive manner of study combines the benefits of an easy to read Bible with the more literal ones.
