Heads Up, 7 Up
from @authorlaurawinter's open tag, thank you!
Cornelius leaned closer and rested his arm on the back of the driver's seat, held Finlay’s dark and frightened gaze. “I understand,” he said. He rested his other hand on Finlay’s knee, where Finlay might feel its weight but no one else could see it. “But what men do in their own homes should be left private.” He waited for Finlay’s tiny nod of reply. When he pulled away, Finlay exhaled as if he hadn’t breathed the whole time Cornelius was touching him. Cornelius got out of the car and crossed the street without looking back.
Cornelius when he describes himself: Aged out of his good looks, washed out and boring, mousy
Cornelius from everyone else's POV: I have never wanted to suck a dick so bad in my life.
The most delightful thing about writing Cornelius is that he doesn't think of himself as hot at any point. However, he knows that people want to fuck him and he knows how to positively manipulate them. So he's going around making intense eye contact and leaving little touches and making a bunch of repressed rich people beg him to pay attention to them. And that's charisma baby :)
I can’t get over how amazing Project Compass is so I made a short storyboard of one of my favorite scenes so far.
Though I gotta say, pretty much every scene in this story is my favorite scene. The world-building, mystery, characterization, and plot- all of it breaks my brain with how well @thedistantstorm is able to put it all together. Reading this work both inspires me to work on my own neglected WIPs and fills me with joy and enjoyment. So here are some little sketches to celebrate an amazing work of fanfic. Thank you!
To all my lovelies awaiting more Project Compass - an update is coming, I promise! We’re at a really pivotal moment in the story (as you know if you’re caught up) so I need to actually write ahead to make sure I can give you the best plot possible as we bring the story home.
ps: i know i targeted 33 chapters. let it be know that I’ve written half of chapter 32 and we are definitely at looking at at least 35 chapters at this point.
Out of Context Line
Thanks to @chayscribbles!
Keeping it short and sweet this time. Sometimes a black eye is a sign of love.
George raised an eyebrow. "You let just anyone do that to your face?" "Hazard of the job," Gavin said, mind elsewhere. The physical pain didn’t matter.

❤️: what’s the working title?
The working title is “Nobleness, Like Stars,” but I refer to it as “Project Compass” because it’s shorter and a holdover from the days before it had a title.
💕: what has your favorite scene been?
I have a lot of favorite scenes—the dynamic between the three MCs is so fun.
I particularly loved writing a scene early in their road trip where Elsie, who is actually as nice as she seems, teaches Gavin to drive her rolls-royce. Gavin loves cars and has no money, so he’s freaking out touching something so expensive.
And then she calls him handsome and he’s so startled that he stalls the car.
It’s a great scene because I get to give Gavin and Elsie something in common that isn’t their crush on Cornelius, and make Gavin learn to trust her.
I also felt particularly skilled writing it because it feels like a scene that only exists to be cute, until Gavin gets out of the car to crank the starter and gets attacked by a demon and real plot kicks off.
Friday Kiss
Open tagged, and open tagging all my followers, especially since it's not even Friday anymore
This scene took me forever to write because I wanted it to be hot but there's a lot of subtext going on that I had to get right. Because something something the sex scenes have to be relevant to the plot. I think it turned out okay :)
Cornelius finally touched the man, cupping his hand around Lord Finlay’s jaw and swiping his thumb across a cheekbone. “Why don't you tell me what you want?” “Kiss me?” Lord Finlay whispered, and his throat bobbed against Cornelius’ palm. “Was that so hard?” Cornelius cooed, and pinned the other man to the wall with his body, caressing his cheek and leaning in to meet their lips together. Hesitantly, Lord Finlay's hands came up, to Cornelius' chest, his jaw, fluttering like nervous birds. He opened his mouth to Cornelius, let him in, and Cornelius chased the vulnerability, pressing them closer. It was only a soft press of lips on lips, spun out until it was Lord Finlay who deepened it, Lord Finlay who rubbed his fingers along Cornelius’ stubble.
“You saw the circle.” Neil nodded. “I saw.” He put his hand out. Gavin stared at it, and by the time he realized Neil was offering support, Neil had dropped his hand and turned to walk back to the house.
PERHAPS 50k in is too late in the book for an aborted hand holding, but I am enjoying the slow burn
