Friends, I have found the soundtrack not for the emergency landing, but for the proposal.
Hear me out: The club scene is Ilya's version: the original tATu and Harrison fusion of "All the Things She Said." The WJM orchestra version is for Shane realizing he almost lost the most important person in his life and that this is not enough. It's for not being able to wait, for the realization that Ilya is more important to him than hockey.
I stayed up past my bedtime to post Heated Rivalry fanfic.

So like a lot of folks who gaslit themselves about their queerness to fit in I have these moments where I remember I did something in secret but never really understood why. (Spoiler, it was the internalized homophobia)
So when "All The Things She Said" hit and then the heavy staring I was instantly transported back to painstakingly downloading both language versions of every t.A.T.u. song in the middle of the night more than 20 years ago so my family wouldn't find out for reasons and just like... Wow, y'know. Cinema and all that.
The Centaurs goal song has to be History Maker, right?
Look at me arriving in Heated Rivalry fandom after reading Game Changer, Heated Rivalry, Role Model, and The Long Game in 2 days despite not yet watching the TV series. I should have eps 1-5 binged in time for the finale. I'm practically on time.
If you know anything about my history with fandom, you'd know this is extremely rare. The last time was 2019 with The Mandalorian aka my gateway into Star Wars and look at how that turned out.
Annnnnyway, as a lifelong hockey fan I have A Lot of thoughts and feelings, especially since I know S2 has been confirmed and we are going to get into some very hot tea.
Riptide
So here I am, fingers flying across the keyboard, trying to write A Thing. I'm listening a playlist of all of the songs I've ever liked on Spotify and Riptide from Destiny 2's soundtrack comes on.
You know how you can tell a soundtrack is good? When you hear those opening notes and you're immediately taken back to the first time you experienced that music. I can see the planet, the landing zones, the methane ocean, the half sinking rig, Sloane and Zavala and the undercurrent of hope and despair that hooked me so completely throughout that entire campaign.
It made me grateful -- I'm so glad I played Destiny 2, that I met so many people who mean so much to me through the game, that I got to immerse myself in this vibrant universe and watch it unfold for so many years. But it made me sad too, because I know what the game's become, and I've watched the tens of people I played with most frequently -- clanmates, friends, family, and eventually even myself -- give it up. Decisions were made to remove so many pivotal parts of the story that explain why we're here, what the story ultimately led into, and the meta became so intense that it was impossible to have a positive experience or feel like it was worth playing if you didn't put in enough time that it was essentially a full time job.
I love Destiny 2 -- it was my first FPS, a game my now husband suggested to me and one I played long after he gave it up. I have thousands of hours in the game and so many wonderful memories with people I'm lucky to call friends as well as folks I only encountered once in LFGs in pursuit of crazy triumphs. I miss it greatly.
I hope someday it goes back to the way it used to be, even if I know in this age of corporate greed and FOMO that's impossible.
I think maybe I missed the birds and the bees talk after all, I donāt remember this part

FINALLY made my way down the top 10 as the episodes end āļø The finale was so beautiful and I'm really glad I decided to watch it weekly. X was, as always, fun to draw and his theme is still my favorite out of all the heroes! I like how the final episode showed us the timeline but also threw more mysteries at us. Looking forward to seeing S2!! (in probably 2-3 years...) š
