"So… what colors do you like?" asked the seamstress. "Based on your natural coloring, I would recommend colors on the cool, refined end of the spectrum. Reds, Purples, Blues, and Pinks."
"Perhaps a pale green or yellow could work as well," said the assistant. "but I would stay away from any deep, bright shades. Orange is the opposite of purple, and anything too close will clash with your hair and eyes."
The seamstress placed a finger on her chin. "Your hair isn't that purple, though, so I suppose we could try out a lighter orange."
"Really?" The assistant craned her head around. "From this angle, the sunlight makes it look lilac."
Deirdre's gaze flitted between the three mirrors. "It's a… silverish-purple? Purplish-silver? I've been told before it was the color of lavender, but I've picked hundreds of bunches and it's not nearly that deep."
The assistant smiled. "Well, it's a beautiful color, your grace."
"Speaking of colors…"
"Oh! Right. I've always been partial to pinks and purples, but I'm willing to try whatever you think might look nice on me."
"How about patterns?"
"Floral, I suppose?" "And I don't know if you could work this in, but I've always loved fairy tales."
The assistant clapped her hands. "Oh! That could be so fun to incorporate. Are there any you favor in—"
A knock at the door. A page entered. "Your grace, Lord Sigurd of Chalphy has requested your presence."
