project.ties Worldbuilding - Demons
With a slim lead of 28.6% over the Fae & Pixies’ 25.7%, demons are my next entry for my project.ties worldbuilding series. They aren’t actually seen in the first book, project.ties, but they play a large role in the background events and a much more front and center roll in the following novels.
The origins of demons in my novels is actually from the falling of many angels with Lucifer into the realm of Purgatory, in which they created Hell. All offspring from these fallen angels, even including Lucifer’s children, are considered Demons. Other types of Demons are those beings, human and otherwise, that have made deals with the followers of Marcus Morgenstern and had their souls collected for their payment. Those that don’t fall into one category or another are called Fiends, they are a typical Demon without any type specific powers. The specific origin of Succibi and Incubi are from Åse feeding her brother Dominic’s Warlocks her blood and infusing them with her power.
All Demons, outside of Morgenstern Demons, have black blood similar to that of the original Seven Sins Vampires. They all have various levels of enhanced physical abilities with the lowest being the Fiends and the uppers being the Behemoths/Erinys taking second to the Morgenstern Demons. They are weakened by silver in their systems and can be killed by a combination of decapitation and ripping out their heart.
All of the types of Demons can interbred with one another to create more of either type of Demon, though the child tends to lean towards the type of its mother. Many Demon children, especially those with more powerful magic, tend to be more sickly when they are young due to their bodies struggling with the amount of magic in their small bodies. This is especially true for Morgenstern Demons - though they have their own issues with magic as small children I’ll cover in another post focused solely on this specific type of Demon.
Demon Types & Typical Abilities
There are several types of demons, most of them I’ll explain down here.
These are a specific category of Demons that only applies to those descended from Lucifer Morgenstern and his family. They have a wide variety of powers specific to each individual but that can be passed down through the family and large storages of magic. Their healing and physical abilies are also much more advanced compared to other demons of similar age or size. At the time of the first novel, there are only eleven Morgenstern Demons total between all of the realms. Even if the Demon can be considered any other type of Demon or race, the Morgenstern traits are usually quite obvious and categorizes the Demon.
Fiends are the typical demon and the most common. Many of them come as the next generations following the fallen angels and live separately from their ancestors, who live in Dominic’s Kingdom of the Ancients. They don’t have many powers or magic of their own - and even if they do it’s not enough to classify them as any of the other types of Demons. They carry enhanced physical abilities a level above those of a typical Vampire of a similar age. Most of Hell’s economy comes from Fiends working in their districts as most of them have more typical jobs.
Behemoth (Male) & Erinys (Female) Demons
This type of Demon has the body type of a mountain. Men and woman alike are abnormally large and muscular, typically short tempered, and always extremely strong and hardy. They comprise much of Hell’s well trained Legions and those with more even temperaments find themselves as royal guards for the Morgenstern royal family and other noble families on Lucifer’s council.
Dealers are more similar to a typical Fiend demon, though their extra power is the ability to create contract deals with others. The terms of these deals vary widely and from contract to contract - pretty much anything can be listed as terms in the agreement. Many times, they wish to contract souls as payments in order to collect more power and gain ranking in Marcus’ kingdom to gain the favor of the Morgenstern. They don’t tend to have many other powers outside of the typical Fiend’s abilities though. Many of them don’t have typical jobs and focus various other tasks in direct service to Marcus and his lieutenants.
Illusion Demons/Illusionists
Illusionists have much more magic than the typical Demon or Fiend with the ability to warp the minds of others, driving those susceptible into frenzies with hallucinations and delusions. They work in the shadows as spies for the most part with a focus on gaining knowledge and swaying the opinions of others from the shadows. Much of their time when not on missions or jobs is spent studying academics and practicing their magic.
Demons created from Warlocks ingesting Åse’s blood long ago. They are a special type of Demon that can shift their physical forms to disguise themselves as whatever being they choose to, as long as it fits into the general shape and form of their original humanoid form. They also wield some magic from the time their lineage was of Warlocks, though the magic and amount of magic they wield is variable and different between individuals.
Hellspawn, Demon Spawn, or Halflings are all names that describe a Demon’s offspring with any other race, including humans. They are technically their own sub-race, though they typically get lumped in with Demons more often than not. They don’t all agree on a single name to call themselves since they are all split up across the realms, but they are typically called Hellspawn by most other races.
Laws & Rules to Govern Them
Demons fall under the Kingdom of Demons, one of the three kingdoms that fall under the Empire of Hell. The Empire is ruled by Emperor Lucifer Morgenstern and Empress Lilith Morgenstern. Their three children together - Åse, Marcus, and Dominic - rule over a kingdom each, this kingdom falling under Marcus’ control. The majority of his kingdom consists of Behemoths/Erinys, Dealers, Illusionists, and Fiends with just a few Succubi/Incubi residing in his kingdom - most of them deciding to live within Åse’s domain in the Kingdom of the Dead.
There’s a lot of information to write about Demons, so this is just the basics. Morgenstern Demons and Hellspawn will be getting their own race intros because they are so intricate and there’s a lot to write about them, lol. They’re both very important to the story of project.chronicles overall, especially later in the series. Let me know if there’s more questions or more information needed! Thanks for reading!
