Recently Nightwing Dick Grayson teaching newly adopted Jaybin acrobatics because he saw Jay’s grappling technique and winced a little. Now mind you Jay is doing his damndest, he’s trying. He doesn’t have a background in this stuff. But Dick is just standing there like “Bruce what did you teach the poor kid.”

So like one time when Jay goes to Blüdhaven Dick says he has a surprise for him and then takes him to an acrobatics gym he frequents.

About two hours later and he’s got Jason running through general flyer maneuvers on trapeze, serving as his catcher and also giving him instructions from the other bar. He’s got him doing returns over and over to practice for landing on buildings. At one point Jason barely makes it onto the platform only to slip and fall backwards into the net anyways, cussing on the way down. And Dick has to barely control himself from bursting out into tears from laughter. His core already was burning from the trapeze work but his laughter now isn’t helping.

Sorry Jason, he loves you, and honestly, that’s why he’s laughing.

Thinking abt the time in the comics pre crisis where Dick almost adopted Jason and it just… somehow never got brought up again. And this isn’t the Jason we all know, this was kinda deliberate Grayson clone (in some ways) Jason. Flying Todds Jason.

But like I got down this mental rabbit hole, and can you imagine Dick, after so many years away from the circus, either adopting or having kids of his own in Blüdhaven, and one day they tell him they want to try circus? Like the rush of emotions Dick would probably go through within a matter of seconds.

All of a sudden he’s mentally taken back to his youngest childhood years at Haly’s Circus, watching his parents flying in awe that that’s what his family gets to do every day, and wanting more than anything to get up there with them. His first lessons. Learning and mastering tricks, how to fly, and of course, how to fall.

And then he’s reminded of how much time has passed since then. His parents’ death. Zucco. Bruce Wayne. Dark Victory. Dynamic Duo. The Titans. Blüdhaven. All of it. And he wonders how truly connected he still is to that little boy on the trapeze. Even the Robin mantle, the name his mother gave him, isn’t his anymore. It’s off giving Gothamites hope.

All this to say… I think Dick would be a little teary eyed meeting young kids who want to try circus. Especially if they’re his own. And I feel like one day if he ever gets more time on his hands he’d be such a wonderful teacher. A bit concerned with equipment issues for… reasons. But… wonderful nonetheless. Very caring, kind, wanting to give the next generation the sense of wonder he grew up with.

(P.S. if he ever started a trapeze school you can BET that Zitka the elephant (the plushie) will be there in her place of honor if anyone needs her for comfort.)

(P.P.S. PLEASE let post crisis Jaybin try trapeze I want to see that so badly, we know Tim can do a lot of Dick’s tricks but I would love to see Dick take Jay to go flying.)

I unironically think that Jason Todd would be very good at typical housewife/home-ec stuff.

This kid was basically alone and broke, he knows how to repair clothes.

He knows how to cook, maybe not well, maybe bland, but he can tell you if your chicken is cooked enough.

Also Jason can probably make fire very easily since electricity was a luxury

He can cook, he can clean, he can sew, and probably is good with plants (or taking care of things in general) too. You’re telling me his mom didn’t grow that shit herself?

Gothamites have to have some sorta Rogue Hours assurance in their workplaces. Like there’s gotta be a way for them to call out of work because of random BS that affected their transport to work without calling out sick.

Because like otherwise what are you supposed to do if your employee calls you like “hey boss, I kinda can’t come to work today, I’m not sick or anything, I just… left my apartment to come to the office and found out my car’s kinda… hanging from a gargoyle. So…” Like what are you supposed to do with that.

And they call it Rogue Time but half the time it’s Bat related too. Like if you get a batarang through the windshield. Or get your car totaled because you had to swerve around the Batmobile. Or gods forbid your car breaks someone’s fall.

Let alone if you’re the poor soul who gets captured and held hostage for whatever reason. Like the next morning after whichever bat saves you if you need to catch up on sleep can you just call in like “Hey, yeah, I got kidnapped last night, can I stay home today? Yeah, I’m fine, just a little bit out of it. Red Hood busted me out but I saw a guy die in front of me a few hours ago, so I’ve got a lot to process.” Like that’d be fine right? And then you could still call in when you are sick no problem.

I’m also so sure there’s like… car and house insurance options for rogue related activities. So like if you’re that poor soul whose car is in the newest Batmobile related accident. Or Joker plants a bomb pizza box in the back of your car. Or your apartment complex is the unlucky one to be wrapped in vines by Ivy. Like surely you’re fine right? Gothamites can’t be staying in this city on loyalty and pride alone. There’s gotta be some sort of life insurance Bruce has to get folks to stay.

Bruce Wayne is a model, since he was teenager, and I like to imagine when he was younger (in his teens or twenties) he would do more silly commercials.

Like a designer commercial except it’s just clips of him rocking out to early 2000’s emo/punk music in a white room

When he could, he would do them with Oliver Queen, famously his childhood friend.

Also, he never told ANY of his kids about the stupid modeling gigs he did.

So when American Eagle brings back the ad with him lip syncing and dancing to American idiot for its 20 year anniversary (he was 21), they are all shocked. Not surprised though.

Well not until they see he’s actually smiling. And fucking shredding his electric guitar while Ollie throws money, though that’s partially cropped out of view.

Stephanie Brown is an alt girl and always has been. I have a feeling that she’s the catalyst for the other bats trying alternative fashion. Because before her the fashion “icons” of the family were Bruce and Dick. And Bruce was a commercial/mainstream trendsetter… and I say this affectionately, Dick’s fashion sense in his early twenties was just… messy. How messy varies widely depending on the day but when his mental health was bad not even Donna could keep him from committing felonies against fashion.

But then Steph showed up in her soft grunge style and everything changed. She’s a master of the fine art of thrifting, and has upcycled so much low-rise denim to cut stars in the knees and put purple tights underneath that she could make a pretty penny if she resold pieces. Being around her and Conner convinced Tim to start experimenting, and the bats were influenced from there. Trad goth Cass? Because of Steph. Cyberpunk/techwear Duke? Because of Steph. Punk Tim? Because of Steph. (To be fair she bought most of Tim’s alt clothes because he tries and doesn’t really know where to look. Conner and Lonnie have both contributed too.) She has had more influence over the clothing in the family portraits than Bruce has over the years, and lauds that win over his head every chance she gets.

The only person she can’t take direct credit for is Jason. Jay was already dressing in grunge fashion when he came back, but a harder style than her soft pastels. But when they met there was a moment of mutual respect between the two as it was clear they’d gone down the same fashion pipeline.

Edit: Ok but Steph with the Alysa Liu style hair rings but in lavender. She has to cover them on patrol so her hair doesn’t reveal her identity but maybe uncovers it if she becomes a trendsetter as Stephanie Brown. Which. She certainly has in the vigilante community.

Also picture Young Justice fighting with Anarky and Lonnie overhearing that Robin is apparently taking alt hand-me-downs from Superboy and Spoiler and being like “oh shit what size do you wear?” And the next time they meet Anarky’s got a bag like “these are too small for me, take what you want.”

Just imagining the “who is Robin” limbo in canon essentially working like a shift schedule. There’s a time table/calendar in the Batcave next to a white board. The timetable has Tim’s name in orange, Damian’s name in green and Duke’s name in yellow. Everyone else has their names on the white board, but the time table only has those three… now. Steph’s name was on the table between Tim and Damian in purple. And Dick’s in light blue and Jason’s in red are at the top but their time boxes are permanently greyed out. (They both would rather die than wear the Robin suit again and Jay’s said that directly.)

This sheet makes it look like being Robin is a part-time corpo job. And there’s little handwritten notes on it and post-its underneath with messages like “Damian - time off Friday Night, sleepover @ Jon’s” and “Duke covering Tim from 9pm-12am Tuesday, taking 3 hrs off of day shift Wednesday”. It’s like a legitimate Robin shift schedule. Except no one’s getting paid.

The white board has everyone’s names on it. Alfred made little magnets. The aforementioned Dick in light blue, Jason in red, Tim in orange, Steph in purple, Damian in green, and Duke in yellow, alongside Bruce in black, Cass in pink, Barbara in teal, and Luke in dark blue. He’s set it up like a little seat assignment board in an elementary school classroom as his way to keep tabs on where everyone is. No one dares touch the board, at least nowadays. Dick and Barbara used to write little messages on it, and eventually got Jason to start doing the same. A “we love you Alfred!” Written by 14 year old pre-death Jason is still there. And no one would ever smudge it, because Alfred would never be the same after.
