Here's a really beautiful memory from our #ProjectIndia mural and wheat pasting workshops with the incredible youth of @newlightkolkata in Kolkata, India last year. We curated many of the images you see here on the walls and many other images that were included in the breathtaking book #Illuminate we published this year...all photographed by survivors of human trafficking and at-risk youth! We were blessed to be able to pay for and donate all of the supplies, all of the printing, the paint and to hire art collective #ODDcollective to come in and teach the mural painting to the entire community. These donations were all made possible because of YOU...our supporters, our donors and our volunteer staff and instructors. We love you all and appreciate you all so much! Look at how your donations empowered all of these youth....now that's what we call #Ahhhhhmazing (at KOLKATA-The City Of Joy (Calcutta))

Our @beautyforfreedom #tbt #throwbackthursday is of the amazing experience we had teaching our #bff #projectindia photography workshops last year to the exceptional youth of @newlightkolkata All of our students had the opportunity to photograph their community portraits in Kalighat (red light district in Kolkata, India) with @canonusa DSLR cameras! The over 5000 images the youth photographed has culminated in our newly self-published #Illuminate book project and these incredible youth have now been featured in @betterphotography India @bazaarindia (Harper's Bazaar India) and @huffpost WOW!!! . . . Email us at [email protected] for corporate buying and learn more about the project below👇🏽📕 #ProjectIndia a series of arts therapy workshops taught by the @beautyforfreedom team this past October focused on community portraiture, captured by the immensely talented youth of @newlightkolkata featured very personal moments, the innocence of the people of the Kalighat community. This was juxtaposed to the visibility of the red-light district’s intergenerational horrors of sex trafficking, violence and prostitution. “Illuminate” has a transcendent quality that engages the viewer to see beyond the difficult circumstances surrounding life in Kalighat and leaves us all with a lasting impression that love truly exists in this place and that life is not as polarizing as one might think, given the fact that creativity, culture and pride thrive in Kalighat. The photography students were welcomed into homes and gained entrance into the daily lives of the people of the community because many of the youth were born and raised in Kalighat before moving into New Light’s CRECHE CUM SHELTER located as a permanent structure above a temple situated deep inside the Kalighat red light district. The shelter offers comprehensive care and support to the children ranging from a few months old to sixteen years. Beauty for Freedom’s intensive photography program instructed 40 youth ages 9-27 over a 5-day course and yielded over 5000 images. The final collection of images and the “Illuminate” book project written by @varunranaofficial with foreword by @shashitharoor curated by @mirrorfell and @artinmotionshow and designed by Anil Adireddi will be produced by Beauty for Freedom and published this August. #endhumantrafficking #giveback #jointhefight #arttherapy #photography #illuminate (at Mumbai, India)
