I have two bottles of synthetic dye, one 100% polyester skirt, and a pot that has already proven itself not quite big enough for the amount of water this skirt needs + the skirt itself. wish me luck

two bottles of black dye and an hour in the dye bath have done some… unexpected things to my nice silk shirt. this started out as light blue! I think it might not be silk after all, I thrifted it so I don’t know the materials for sure. hopefully a better dye job will hide the discolorations, since I’m just dying it black. back to the crafts store for me :/

A few months ago I bought this super cool necklace made from a computer part at a craft fair, and I’m working on making it a brooch to give to my dad for his birthday. After a good amount of essentially sawing at the chain loop on top with my wire cutters, I managed to get it off, then sandpapered it soft again.

My dream of getting the seam to disappear is not going to happen because the chain loop didn’t snap off cleanly, so I’ve decided that it’s acceptable the way it is. I might try some rub’n’buff to even out the color later.

I then roughed up the back a little and used epoxy metal glue (which I’ve never used before, and thank god I was doing this by a window, that stuff is noxious) to attach the pin-backs. I put on two just to be safe, since this thing’s got some heft and I don’t want it coming apart under its own weight. Again, it’s not the most perfect glue job, but I plan to have a go at cleaning that up a bit with sandpaper once it’s cured.

whitby was VERY well behaved during the dyeing process, im so impressed! he seemed to realize that id pick him up and put him back down on the ground if he got onto the counter proper, but he still wanted to watch, so he stayed on the windowsill where he could get a good view. he kept stretching out his neck and almost-pawing the counter; it was very clear he was trying to follow the rules. my smart boy!!
