may i interest you in the many beautiful nuances of public whump

Whumpee being shocked that Whumper would go that far in public

the amount of preparation Whumper went through to make it possible

the disappointment when Whumpee realizes they won’t get rescued

Whumpee frantically trying to get help and being let down at every turn

or a Whumpee who’s obedient through all of it in an attempt to shorten the suffering (unsuccessfully)

or a defiant Whumpee who fights, bites and claws at anyone only to end up as a limb exhausted body to be toyed with

and of course the sheer terror when Whumper leaves them there

at the mercy of so many Whumpers they don’t know

Whumpers laughing at them, whispering, others just staring or mocking Whumpee

the torment of being pulled in different directions, not knowing where to turn to, who to reply to

being brought to a point where they beg for Whumper to return

Not an agent AU

Shadow doesn't work for GUN, never has. Instead, he takes any odd jobs he can. Develops a particular social ability for this. He's still an introvert, but a perfect employee for the most part. He tends to drop out after one or a couple of encounters with government agents every time he lands a job. He does have a favorite agent in Rouge, as the mobian has decided to "play the long game in recruiting him" and just doesn't report him.

Shadow has made a couple of friends in elderly people and children, even as he's taken to moving countries like a challenge. He helps out Sonic and Co. sometimes, but the other hedgehog either finds him things to do or points out someplace new for Shadow to explore and job hunt in whenever they meet like it’s always been a part of his routine.

Eggman seeks him out on occasion, but even he recognizes that Shadow is a free spirit, for the most part, and is the one to gift him a motorcycle.
