If you asked Ella she would say that her uncle Pads’ apartment was the coolest place on earth.
Sirius lived in muggle London, alone in an apartment where you could see the Big Beng from his living room’s window. That same room had a muggle television, a record player and a huge collection of vinyls.
Whenever Ella came over she asked Sirius to play the same album everytime: A night at the opera by Queen. Maybe it was because the cover had pink details, but the girl really felt the intensity of Bohemian Rhapsody in her body and she loved it.
Sirius’ room was a cool place too. His bed was very big, and he had a lot of books. What he also had was a vintage electric guitar he bought at an auction that worked like it was brand new. Did Sirius know how to play the guitar? He had learned the basics. Did Ella? Absolutely not. But every time she sat in the bed and asked her uncle to pass her the guitar, that was two times her size, she truly believed she sounded like the rockstars of the time.
We can't forget the kitchen, even cooler. Uncle Pads had the sweets Ella’s parents wouldn't let her eat more than twice per week and on special occasions. He specifically had a brand of biscuits he used to love back in Hogwarts and used to steal from Honeydukes (even though he had enough money to buy them). The biscuits were coated in chocolate and inside they had a marshmallow with an ingredient that simulated small explosions on the tongue. “It tickles,” Ella would say every time she eats the biscuits.
Sirius loved to take care of Ella, and he also loved to take care of Harry. What he didn't love was having to take care of the two kids at the same time. Ella was a bomb of energy, while Harry was more calm. But also, Ella mostly stayed in her place and didn't move when concentrated, but Harry couldn't stand still for his life, he was a really curious 4-year-old. So poor Sirius could only give them everything they asked for in order to have peace in his house.
“And don't give her more than one biscuit, Sirius. I know you always end up giving her half the package and that’s unhealthy, so please.” Remus said. His voice was serious and his gaze intense. Even if Sirius always tells Ella not to tell Remus and you every time he gives her an extra biscuit, she would forget and tell her parents as soon as she’s home.
“Come on, Moony! It’s almost like you don't trust me.” Sirius said, taking Ella’s bag from Remus’ shoulder.
“I don't trust you.”
“First of all, rude. Second of all, I promise this time will be different, besides, James has to bring Harry too so they will be busy playing with each other to even think about the biscuits.” Sirius said.
“You’re making it worse.” Remus said. Hearing the names Ella, Harry and Sirius in the same sentence was not something Remus liked to hear.
“She’ll be fine, We’ll be fine. Now go before Y/N dies of boredom.” said Sirius, rolling his eyes.
Remus just looked at Ella and lowered himself to be her same height. “Come say goodbye to Daddy, Ella.” His voice had turned sweeter and his mouth had curved into a sweet smile.
Ella wrapped her arms tightly around Remus’ neck and kissed him on the cheek. Remus’ smile widened by the kisses, he also wrapped his arms around his daughter’s small body and kissed her temple.
“Goodbye, Daddy. I love you to the rainbow and back.” Ella said with a big smile.
“Goodbye, pup. Don’t cause too much trouble.” Remus said standing up and ruffing the girl’s hair. Finally, he gave Sirius one last warning look and left.
When Sirius had closed the front door Ella immediately ran towards the record player and said “The pink and white album, Uncle Pads!”
A little less than an hour later Sirius’ apartment’s doorbell rang again. Sirius, who had been playing a board game with Ella, stood up to answer the door.
He was expecting James, it was always James who dropped Harry at his house, but when he opened the door he was met with Lily’s sharp green eyes.
Oh, what a great day he was having.
“Hello Lily, Hello Harry.” Sirius smiled.
“Hello Uncle Padfoot!” Harry nearly shouted out of excitement.
“Hi. Ella is inside, go play with your cousin.” Sirius said. Harry looked up to his mum, she kissed his forehead and, without waiting one more second, he bolted towards the living room.
“You already know what I’m going to tell you. No biscuits or any type of candy, he gets hyperactive and it’s better for both of you if he stays calm. And he’s not staying the night, James will be coming to pick him up around 8pm.” Lily said, looking past Sirius’ shoulder hoping to catch a glimpse of Harry and Ella.
“Yes ma’am.” Sirius nodded.
“Thank you for taking care of him, Sirius. Oh! And I almost forgot. Harry has a tooth that’s been moving since yesterday. If it falls, keep it and give it to James when he comes.” Lily said. Sirius nodded, telling her not to worry.
When Lily was gone Sirius closed the door and mentally prepared for the day he was about to have.
“And lady pinkpurple said ‘yes’ so her and Mr. Giggles are getting married in a week.” Ella said while eating her second biscuit.
“But stuffed toys can't get married.” Harry said matter-of-factly.
“Yes, they can!” Ella insisted, looking to her cousin dead in the eye. “You know who is also getting married?” This time Ella smiled and kept eating the biscuit. “Mum and daddy.”
Sirius, who had been cooking lunch for him and the two kids, stopped stirring the pan when he heard that. Remus and you getting married? Why had no one told him about it?
“Ella, what have you said?” Sirius' head popped out of the kitchen’s doorway to look at the girl, who was seated next to Harry on the sofa.
“Mum and Dad are getting married. Daddy told me that he was going to take Mama to a very beautiful place today and he was going to give her a ring.” Ella said with a proud smile. Remus has had to explain everything to Ella today because she kept asking why they were leaving for two days and leaving her with Sirius.
Sirius hadn’t suspected anything from you and Remus leaving Ella in his house for more than one day. Sometimes Remus would accompany you to one of your games and Ella was still too young to go, so she stayed with Sirius. But he would have never expected that the actual reason was that Remus had planned a getaway to propose to you.
Of course he knew that this day would eventually come, but he wasn’t expecting it to be this soon. He still remembered how scared Remsu sounded when he dropped the news that he was going to be a father, that you were pregnant. Because for you two it was too early, because Remus was a werewolf and, even though you were one of the most famous athletes right now in the wizarding world, he was still unemployed, so all the money you two had on that time was yours.
“And I’m going to tell my Daddy that you are not invited, Harry.” Ella said to her cousin.
Harry, who had been eating his own biscuit without harming anyone or throwing any tantrums, looked at Ella with wide eyes “Why!?” He complained.
“Because you have won in ‘Guess Who’ too many times today, it’s not fair.” Ella crossed her arms around her chest. The two only children really argued like they were siblings, thank god neither, James and Lily and Remus and you, were thinking of having more children, poor Sirius couldn’t handle it.
“That’s really not fair. Uncle Pads, tell her I can still go to the wedding.” Sirius saw how Harry was about to cry.
“You will be going with your parents Prongslet, don't worry.” Sirius whispered, hoping that would be enough for the boy to stop the tears forming in his eyes.
Sirius loved taking care of the two troublemakers, but it was best if they were separated. Either way, he was going to get all of the information about your engagement from Remus’ mouth as soon as he’s back from your getaway.
“Uncle Pads! My tooth!” Harry shouted from the living room. His front tooth was in the palm of his hand, his mouth was starting to bleed and Ella had started to cry.
Oh, how wonderful.
Comments and feedback is ver well received, but always with kindness.
