i'll give you 3 random ones lol

1) i hc some of the countries have such strong...ah...magical auras, for want of a better phrase, that they'll even fuck with electronics just by being in proximity to them. some are aware of this fact (nat) and some just think tech is shitty (ivan, yao). also some have no real effect on it (francis) and others it'll work better for them (gil, feliks, alfred)

2) feliks and ivan both love to pretend they don't speak multiple languages whether it's to annoy someone or just so they can eavesdrop. in particular they'll both deny knowing german or english (they're both fluent in both, at least as far as reading and listening go). i think alfred does know they're lying but doesn't say anything because a) they don't know that he knows b) he thinks it's hilarious

3) old hc of mine from my rp days: tolys fucking loves romance novels and movies. the sappier the better

headcanon asks!

😇 A headcanon about their religion/lack thereof

i do think that tolys genuinely believes in Something Greater, so to speak, if only because, well, he exists, and magic exists, so there's got to be something. but i think he's fairly ambivalent about what exactly the Something is. he feels most connected to the universe when he's out in nature, he's very much always chasing the Romantic concept of the Sublime i think, and he's most connected on his own land, which he does tend to interpret as a sign of there being some truth to his pre-christian gods...but i do also think he genuinely finds aspects of catholicism compelling. i like to joke that he's only catholic out of spite for being told by the russians he shouldn't be one, and that is true, but i do think he relates deeply to some of the saints, the concept of martyrhood, mary as a mother figure (not that he'll ever admit that to gilbert lmao), and i'll also add that the "pensive christ" (which is to say, depictions of jesus looking mournful before he's crucified) is a popular motif in lithuanian folkart, and i think he finds that compelling as well, though i should note all of his positive feelings toward catholicism come from the 1800s and on. prior to the partitions he was exactly as christian in public as he needed to be and not at all in private imo.

i will also say that another two reasons i think he finds catholicism more compelling after the partitions are: 1) i have...only vague thoughts. about tolys having ocd. but one of those is that he finds ritual comforting, and i headcanon that he specifically will pray the rosary to calm down whether it's out of a sense of actual devotion or not, and 2) he can't sense His Gods when not on his own land, so they won't listen to his prayers, but maybe christian god will since he's supposed to be everywhere

(i also have many thoughts about the idea of jewish tolys lol but this is long enough as it is--i'll just say i do actually like the idea but somehow can't quite see it myself in nationverse for some reason)

💔 An angsty headcanon

LOL well where to start. i think he suffers from sleep paralysis, and has since the late 40s. this does not help the fact that he already doesn't get enough sleep for various reasons, because 1) it means his sleep is often unrestful anyway 2) he often simply does not want to go to bed, because it means risking waking up to the Horrors. this is especially bad when he's really stressed out, because being very stressed means he's more likely to experience the sleep paralysis

😬 A headcanon about the worst thing they’ve done

heh another one where i'm not entirely sure where to start. hm.

you know, idk if i'd really say it's the worst, but what keeps him up at night, is memories of every time he was cruel to feliks when they were married. which is honestly less about the severity (though i won't downplay it either) or even like, because feliks was 100% a victim (they were very much awful to each other imo, though sometimes in different ways), but because of two main reasons: 1) tolys realizing that he actually does love feliks a lot and later (post-ww2) wanting to rebuild a relationship with him, and 2) he spent several years after the partitions believing that feliks was permanently dead, and so the specific memories of him being awful that played in his head on repeat during that time are sort of etched into his brain in a different way than a lot of his other memories of doing something awful, even a couple centuries after the fact.

Well I stick to my few characters and few pairings I like and rarely venture out into other ship territory unless it sounds like good pwp to read so honestly no, but that's because I'm in a bubble and didn't care about a lot of ships in the first place

Hate is a strong word since there aren't any characters I hate so strongly like in other shows where I'm wishing someone would throw them off a bridge. I'm honestly not a fan of Canada I just don't get him and I don't find him as relatable as everyone else seems to. But I think part of my dislike might come from his voice in the sub and dub. If I hate someone's voice even in IRL it's really hard for me to like them.

Nonetheless I'll still read fics with him and shit I just don't feel much for him when everyone else does and I feel like what am missing here why do I feel nothing when others feel so drawn to him?

Least shippable character?

Honestly it might actually be America for me. Can't explain it honestly.

Okay Okay okay

So there are a few routes that stem from this concept which I blame my early years in childhood watching old sitcoms from the 70s and 80s, combined with the fact that Iove taking tropes and making them insane.

Route one is Lietpru it was originally for lietpru week but I ended up just doing Office AU. Magic fanfic reasons (read I don't know why but I'm writing this shit so it happens) Feliks is now an infant. Liet and Gil argue a bit and decide neither one of them is going to be stuck taking care of Feliks by themselves because they don't know whose fault it is but the other is not getting out of this.

So they take Feliks with them try to be parents it goes as you would expect and they get annoyed at times but they also kind of bond on their experiences and successes and failures in raising their kid brothers in often less than ideal circumstances.

And as for Feliks well he really isn't aware of the fact that he was previously an adult all he cares about is that he has these twos complete and undivided attention. To babies, the world revolves around them and Feliks is no exception

Route two is Rusliet. Ivan is kinda happy about these circumstances since now that Feliks can't do much and what not as a literal infant he can't be as much of a thorn in his side (Feliks as it turns out, still in fact can) and besides he Liet and Feliks are a great start to a perfect little family Man, Wife, baby all they need is a dog and picket fence (lmao gil could work) all the sudden it's Ivans old sitcom family fantasy came true. Heck get Lat and Ed and now you got your 2.5 kids!

Feliks clearly has a preference for Liet and as such would be satisfied unless he knows liet is there, other guy is weird and Feliks doesn't know how he feels about scarf guy.

Now this one has quite a bit of like mini scenes and moments in my head that I could see happening.

Now when I discussed this on discord this quickly dissolved into an AU where it's stereotypical suburbia but with these idiots. And Liet's a PTO mom with a book club slowly losing their sanity. Alfred is their neighbor that Ivan feuds with and laughs at during the holidays when Alfred accidentally sets his house on fire due to their escalating Christmas decoration conflict that led to Alfred putting an insane amount of Christmas lights on his house and it basically ending up like that robot chicken sketch.

And in both of these there's a lot I have thought about how Feliks would act and behave and what kind of child he would be like throughout early childhood and how his interactions with Liet, Gil, or Ivan would be like.

not to Start Discourse On Main but I've been out of the "mainstream" aph fandom for so long when I came back it was genuinely a shock that suddenly us//uk was verboten; I assume it was the same sort of backlash against rusliet? it's genuinely fascinating to me how the culture has changed tbh

YEAH though the rusliet discourse has been around longer and the vitriol was different bc like in addition to them being canonically very unhealthy (to put it mildly) you also had people citing irl war crimes etc, whereas with usuk ppl just decided overnight that FACE fam was canon when Back In My Day it was an au-only thing lmao

and I’ve said this before I’ll say it again: it doesn’t matter if the ship is actually incest, BUT. I was on tumblr when incest ships were unironically shipped commonly and openly and have only once or twice run into ppl shipping usuk specifically as incest lol it’s a bizarre turn of events
