The who's-who of Chicago's fringe scene. The Rhinoceros Theater Festival is Chicago’s longest running fringe festival. Produced and curated by the Curious Theatre Branch.

PinkElephant is a teen theater group, but don't let that fool you.  They are seasoned actors with off-the-charts talent!  This was my second time to see them perform, and I was thrilled to see how they've developed and continued to raise the bar on their productions.

By the Deep Blue Sea is the brainchild of Giselle Greenberg, who has written the script - including several original songs - directed the production and now acts and sings in the lead role.  It is funny and poignant, and reflects complex emotional insight.  This is not Giselle's first time to develop a show at this level, and she is still in high school.  I cannot wait to see how her talent continues to develop! It's going to be quite something to see.

I attended this show as part of Rhino Fest, a theater festival staged by Curious Theatre Branch that runs an impressive 7 weekends during January and February.  All of the shows are pay-what-you-can, so there's plenty of options even on a tight budget.

Next week we'll already be halfway done with the year!   This really has been so much fun.

Brecht always feels like slogging through mud.  And then you’re depressed afterwards, so why?  I went to see this production because a dear friend was in the cast……and found it offbeat and just unrehearsed enough to be pretty fun. (Super fun is too much to ask of Brecht under any circumstances.) The script was a revision from 2004-ish, so it was full of non sequitur references to Afghanistan and WMDs that felt oddly like a million years ago.  An added bonus was hanging out with the cast afterwards for midnight snacks, champagne, and birthday cake!
