The laboratory glowed faintly with firelight when Lucius entered. Hermione was waiting, a velvet box in her hands. She opened it, revealing a circlet of polished platinum, runes etched with surgical precision. The metal pulsed faintly, alive with protective wards.

Lucius’s breath caught, ever so slightly. “What is this?”

“The PsyShield Crown,” Hermione said softly. “It shields against Legilimency, Imperius, even psychic attack. It is…the perfect Occlumency focus. I named it Lucius’s Crown.”

He stared, silent, then lifted it with trembling fingers. The circlet flared as it touched his brow, runes glowing like fireflies. Hermione whispered the activation charm, and Lucius’s mind felt suddenly encased in marble and diamond—absolute, unbreakable.

He removed it slowly, reverently. His face, usually carved in marble composure, softened—creased with an emotion Hermione had never expected to see.

“My daughter,” he whispered, voice low, roughened. “My clever girl. My little storm. My jewel.”

And then, breaking all precedent, he stepped forward and embraced her. Arms firm, paternal, protective. He held her as if she had always been his child.

Hermione stiffened—then, unbidden, her throat closed with a sting of tears she refused to shed. She let him hold her.

I'm redoing the protective wards to my house because I just found out the new apartment management is pretty bigoted. Any tips for herbs, sigils, rituals that help with flying under the radar?

I want my family to stay protected and unbothered!

I cannot stress how important it is to have wards.

I've seen several posts on here talking about how ppl think it's silly to do this because 'deities will protect their followers'.

Yes, I know the deities are very powerful, but there are other powerful entities that love to mimick them. Theres also entities that are abusive and love to make you sick. Deities cannot protect us at all times, it is up to us to protect ourselves the most. It's a harsh reality and something one must learn. It is not a manipulative tactic on baby witches to learn this. Wards are very easy to set up, and one of the foundation pieces of protective magick.

Please ward. Please protect yourself. There are bad spirits out there that love to deceive and feed upon your energy. Wether its tar spirits, corrupted human souls that refuse to cross over, etc....its important to protect yourself. Take it from someone whose had a tar spirit attached to them/seen them. They are very real. Take it from someone who didnt really think about this as a potential because I too, thought my gods would protect me. Their power can only extend so far.

Cacti & Deadbolts

I've seen a lot of postings recently about cacti and home security floating around the pagan tags. As someone who has a protective cactus in my home, as well as door locks and other means of security, I can say they both keep my home safe in very different ways. However, neither can replace the other. I'd like to remind all readers that these words reflect my personal belief system.

First, let's talk cactus.

Cactus

The cactus and I have a relationship. I didn't just purchase it one day, stick it in my house, chant some words, burn some stuff, water it with moonwater, and blam! Magic Protective Cactus! No no no. Not in the least. The cactus and I have a mutual relationship. I protect it, it protects me. I feed it, it feeds me.  But how the heck does this equate to home protection!?

The cactus fills my home with positive intended energy and love. It acts as a constant presence, a watcher of sorts. When my bond with the cactus is strong enough, I will be able to sense when something isn't right through the spiritual connection I have cultivated with the cactus. Not only that, but negative energy which tries to permeate the positive bubble of my residence will find it twice as hard to do so. Because my cactus is not human and does not have human emotions or sensations, it deals with negative energy differently. Someone can bring turmoil into the home while i am gone, and the cactus will sort with that energy for later.

Alternatively, I can convey intention into my cactus. Cacti are very good at holding intention and for upholding long lasting wards. While the cactus won't get up out of it's plot and start sticking an intruder, a potential intruder might overlook my house because of the wards being upheld by the cactus. 

Third, the cactus acts as a part of a larger scale home security alert system. All the plants in my house have a relationship with each other, and by reading the signals they send each other, I can be aware of much more than meets the eye. 

Fourth, if you plant a shit ton of these under your windows, they will discourage intruders with their natural sexy prickly prowess.

Door Locks & Home Security

In the event that something extra malevolent comes along, door locks and a home security system work great. While a cactus's energies might bring guilt or doubt to the determined attacker, cactus's often can't completely cloud human irrationality with pure intent. If someone honestly thinks breaking into my home is their be all end all, my wards may do little to stop any actual damage they might inflict. Especially if they intended damage before I set my wards, or don't believe in my wards, or are seriously just evil.

This is why locks work great. They're that physical thing standing between you and someone meaning you ill. A security system is also ideal. While my cactus can alert me of trouble, in the event that i'm incapacitated due to trouble, my cactus can't call 911. A security system can.

So! I think i've properly detailed how plants and home security work together to make your home both a safer, and more aware, place.  Plants are great as a metaphysical personal alert system, but when it comes to safety in the physical, one should always invest in something physical.
