Let's pause to recognize the size and amazing biodiversity of our oceans. Together, we can create a sustainable future by making decisions that safeguard and conserve these priceless ecosystems for future generations.🌊💚
We took part in a beach clean today to help try and rid our beaches from some of the phenomenal amounts of plastic and rubbish being left there. It’s estimated that we eat up to 11,000 tonnes of micro-plastics a year, with 80m metric tonnes of plastic expected to be found amongst our seas by 2025 if changes aren’t made. Anyone can get involved in helping to protect our shores, and no act is too small to not make a difference. There’s so many creative ways to curb rubbish ending up in our environment or in landfill too, with items being reused and recycled to create entirely new objects and artwork, which is something we aim to explore in the community arts workshops we do.

Home-coming Every time I descend into the blue, I’m always exactly where I need to be. I feel the weight lift, my mind becomes clear as I let go and that familiar feeling takes over... the sense of freedom. We must protect our seas, our oceans, our cenotes, lakes and rivers.. for we are as much part of it as we are part of each other. We must appreciate this blue planet we have all come from and each in turn, make our own homecoming. 💙💙💙💙💙💙 #love #water #healing #nostos #homecoming #happyplace #be #beyou #findyourplace #freedom #place #explore #discover #beautiful #dive #freedive #natural #findyourself #me #protectourseas #conserve #appreciate #cenote #cenoteencantado (at Cenote Encantado Tulum)

Who keeps our corals & seas protected?
A group of fisherfolk involved in protecting and managing 122 marine sanctuaries nationwide in the Philippines.
Pamana Ka members are fishers who volunteer to work as fish wardens, or guardians of municipal marine sanctuaries. In addition to the risks and the threat of imprisonment from often more powerful illegal fishers, fish wardens do not have salaries. Together, we have formed a force to counter the threats of commercial fishers, illegal fishing and others.
In 1998, a group of community-based sanctuary managers from some parts of the Visayas, gathered in Bohol to form an alliance through the efforts of Project Seahorse & the Haribon Foundation.
A year later, PAMANA KA SA PILIPINAS was organized and registered to the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippine Government.
PAMANA KA = Pambansang Alyansa Ng Mga Maliliit Na Mangingisda at Komunidad na Nangangalaga ng Karagatan at Sanktwaryo sa Pilipinas or National Alliance of Community-based Marine Protected Area Managers or PAMANA Ka (Heritage).
Celebrate 18 years of "behind the seas" work of PAMANA Ka Sa Pilipinas today, March 16.
