Canfín

(protium stevensonii)

A fairly rare fruit from Central- and South America, canfín almost resembles a mangosteen with its segmented, pulp covered seeds. It is therefore not entirely odd that the flavour is described as almost identical to mangosteen. As the fruits ripen, they eventually drop from the tree and the capsules open, revealing the covered seeds after which they're usually quickly devoured by large birds and mammals. The tree also produces copal, an aromatic resin used by the cultures of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica as ceremonially burned incense.

Tumblr'ing the isotopes: hydrogen-1

Protium. The start of the start. The true start of the list of all isotopes in elemental and numerical order. The dream of the Aspie - the way of the taxonomist.

The word Protium makes me think of protons. I guess that is the origin of the name. But is it even a good name - does it convey the essence of the element within? I think hydrogen-1 is a bit more refined as a name. 1H if you want to get technical and who doesn't? The generic way is H-1 and I'll settle there for now because it is the easiest to write.

H-1; are you really all you can be? I don't think so. They gave you a number and a name, but you're still not satisfied.
