Plant of the Day

On a visit to Provender Nursery the masters students and I discovered this cultivar Trachycarpus fortunei 'Wagnerianus' (dwarf Chusan palm). It is unknown in the wild, but may have originated in cultivation in Japan. The leaves are smaller and less divided so remain upright and do not turn over at the tips. It was first discovered by the horticulturist Albert Wagner of Leipzig, Germany, in the late 19th century.
