My Thoughts on Proverbs 18:13
If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame. Proverbs 18:13 I’ve found that I’ve fallen into a Parent Trap, for lack of a better term. This particular Parent Trap, I suspect, has snared many parents before me, and will continue to do so long after I’m gone. It is the Parent Trap of choosing to not really listen to my children. The bait for the Trap goes something like…

Do You Think Things Through?
Do You Think Things Through?
If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame. (Proverbs 18:13) We’ve all been there. You’re talking with someone and you can only get maybe half a sentence out before they’re interrupting you and telling you their thoughts about the matter (or changing the subject to something else entirely). Maybe they continually try to finish your sentence for you and they’re always way…

Why Wisdom Means Asking More Questions
Why Wisdom Means Asking More Questions
Wisdom is an interesting, yet difficult, trait. We view older folks as wise simply because of their life experience. The longer one lives, we assume, the wiser one becomes. But in our social media driven world, we know that to be untrue. You cannot look at your social media feeds without reading something crazy. And the craziness is not dependent on the age. Our current political and social…

Proverbs 18:13 ~ Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish.
De Plane! De Plane!
Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful & foolish. Proverbs 18:13
I can’t wait until they discover what happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Not just for the sake of the families but hopefully it will bring and end to the flow of ignorance from the mouths of television talking heads. We don’t know what happened but that doesn’t stop people from speculating.
People of PURPOSE don’t have time for that. There are always exceptions like family of the passengers, people in the airline industry, security and law enforcement and many DoD personnel. They need to talk among themselves on these issues. The rest of us are talking out of the side of our necks.
These kind of issues have a great deal of nuance underlying the surface facts that are reported. If satellite technology, radar technology and aviation were easy to understand then we would all be doing it. My paper shuffling Clark Kent day job is not as detailed and my own family doesn’t fully understand what I do for a living. I shake my head at reporters who think they are explaining these issues correctly in five minute made for tv segments.
It’s amazing how many things in our society don’t work as designed. Our computer programs have glitches from being poorly programmed. Our waiters and waitresses can’t remember our orders. Our statesmen don’t work for all the people. Everything seems in rebellion against its designer.
One cause of this is people not being focused on their task at hand. We talk about issues that we know nothing about instead of focusing on that which is boring and mundane but absolutely necessary. I hear people making comments like, “this is what they need to do to find the plane” while everyone can see that the person making that statement has a bunch of things to do that they are in denial about.
The plane is thousands of miles away. The gym is down the street.
The plane is thousands of miles away. The bible is closed on your night stand.
The plane is thousands of miles away. Your child hasn’t been read to yet.
The plane is thousands of miles away. Your email box is full.
The plane is thousands of miles away. Your budget hasn’t been reviewed in months.
Honestly I am one of the people that I am writing about. Not on this issue but on others. Outside of my sermons, bible studies and this blog I want to talk less. I want to do more. I want to live in the present and in that moment…. do only what God designed me for.
America needs less armchair Archie Bunkers. We need spirit led DOERS.
Pray for me as I pray for you.
Less talk. More do.
Let’s change the world one soul at a time. Let’s impact our small circle of influence…..cause after all…..the plane is thousands of miles away.
