#Repost @firststepsfarm ・・・ Fr. Sebastian gives Siobhan a drum lesson during our recent visit to St Joseph's Friary in New York. There was hardly a moment when the friars were not either singing or playing music. From the moment we showed up there was someone in their dedicated music practice room, then up to the chapel to sing night prayer, then practicing all next morning for the soup kitchen entertainment, which lasted the entire duration of the lunch! I enjoyed my conversation with Fr Sebastian, who commented that the phenomenon of poverty, all its various and complex causes notwithstanding, ultimately comes down to a lack of love. If there was a community of Brothers like this on every city street corner, the love those neighborhoods would experience would be so transformative it's mind-boggling to imagine. It calls to mind one of my favorite Psalms, 133: how good and beautiful when Brethren dwell as one. Thank you to the brothers for being such an example of love and joy, overflowing frequently into song.
