there is hardly a day that goes by where i don't think about the quote "i need the money, batman!" 100% legit quote by jonathan crane scarecrow in BTAS. his motivation wasn't psychology or fear's place in it, but simply because he needs the money.

HAHAHHAA, so yes totally he needs the money!!!!! it's how he affords those expensive ingredients, hiring people, moving product, getting lab equipment, space to experiment in!

jon puts all of his money into his work, so once he has it he's using it. he's often scraping by. i just imagine the plants he uses for his toxin are super rare and hard to cultivate. expensive because he can't grow them on his own, he's not stable and isn't particularly great with them. i love the idea of him working with ivy to help with his production in that area tbh, but he would have to offer her something in exchange still.

but yes, he totally still does the typical robbing of places for ingredients, equipment, money. he sells toxin off to people to use for whatever they want. it's how he ended up in the situation in as the crow flies, working for penguin/with fright for money and lab space, getting absolutely screwed over by them.

this is why he's straight up just sleeping where he works - besides being obsessively committed and not really sleeping much. he doesn't care to put his money in that area. he also cuts corners with where he operates out of if he has to. shitty warehouses, abandoned places, whatever. if he has the money, he splurges for a nicer work area with better on-site facilities for both himself and patients. but it's expensive. sometimes he has to settle. he needs the money, ba.tman!!!!
