Been sort of in an art funk lately, so I’ve been trying to work through it. Any way thought I should try drawing my PSI*Run character. This is Chell, or at least she thinks that’s her name. (In PSI*Run you start with amnesia and you have to roll the dice to see how your backstory goes.) She’s more of a rocker and her particular power is Telekinesis, the others in the group are a crazy pyrokinetic hobo, cryokinetic high power business man, telepathic government agent, and mother of eight with super speed. Maybe I should try drawing them.
Aug 4: Most recent RPG purchased
I believe the most recent money I've spent on RPGs would be in 2013 for the Bundle of Holding #4. It contained:
Psi*Run (Meguey Baker)
ViewScream (Rafael Chandler)
Witch: the Road to Lindisfarne (Kevin Barthaud & Richard Lacy)
Monster of the Week (Michael Sands)
Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple (Daniel Solis)
How we Came to Live Here (Brennan Taylor)
None of which I owned at the time, and it seemed like a steal for ~$15.
During tonight's session of Psi*Run, one of our PCs started with a casino chip in his pocket. We needed to come up with a name for the casino, so I ran a google search and found out that there really is a real casino that is really named "Slots-a-fun".
It was immediately agreed that this was exactly the name of the casino in question, and the rest of the session involved intermittent giggling (on my part) over the wonderful horribleness. Reviews reveal Slots-a-fun to be "dingy" and "dirty" and to have been, long ago, a cool place, now ruined by the evil touch of new corporate owners Circus Circus. According to Wikipedia, "Carl Thomas, a gaming executive linked to the Civella family of the Kansas City mob, owned the Slots-A-Fun casino in the 1970s when various parts of the mafia controlled the operation of casinos in Las Vegas. Thomas helped orchestrate an elaborate scheme to skim money from casinos for the mob, [for] which he was later arrested, charged, and convicted."
As I told Bekka and Brandon, I would never want to visit this place, but I am glad to know it exists. Whenever I need a sleazy casino for a game or story in the future, you can bet it will be called some variation of Slots-a-fun.
YOU GUYS I PLAYED AN RPG OVER THE INTERNET!
It has been nearly six months since I was last able to game. Hallelujah! We're back in business. Thanks so much to stirringsagacity and nerdacious; a pleasure to game with you two, as always. Short recap: We played Psi*Run, even though we only had two runners. Neither of the two PCs can remember their name; we've been referring to them as The Girl and The Boy so far. Bekka's runner has Clairvoyance, and Brandon's has Bi-Location. The Chasers are all slick and corporate, technological. The transport carrying the two runners ran off the road near a bridge (for unknown reasons); after a quick dialog they hid in a maintenance shed under the bridge. As they were searching it, the Chasers reached the crash site; the Boy's double hurriedly shut the door to keep the two/three of them hidden, but he started wigging out, swapping places with his other copy, moving in odd slow motion, etc. The girl found a trap door on the floor of the shed. That was all we had time for tonight; we'll continue the story next week. I feel like we probably have room for another runner or two if anyone else wants to join -- we haven't gotten far enough along that another couple characters showing up would be jarring at all. Send me an ask if you're interested!
Looking back over Psi*Run in anticipation of running it at CotN, I remembered this music video I used to introduce the game last time I ran it way back at Mac Con, Midnight City. This video is the sequel to that song, called Reunion. So much Psi*Run inspiration.
