The Whisper Man by Alex North is a story about grief, forgiveness, and relationships. Tom Kennedy and his young son, Jake, relocate to Featherbank after the unexpected death of his wife, Rebecca. Tom and Jake’s relationship is complicated- they both find it hard to communicate with the other and are both still in the throes of grief. Jake is an odd little boy, that keeps to himself, so Tom relents when Jake is adamant about moving to a certain house in Featherbank. Twenty years ago, the children of Featherbank were hunted by a serial killer, known as “The Whisper Man”. A few months before the Kennedys move to Featherbank, a local boy vanishes. Detectives Amanda Beck and Pete Willis are heading up the investigation and notice some similarities between the current missing boy’s case and previous cases of The Whisper Man. As Tom and Jake try to move on, Featherbank’s past won’t remain hidden, pulling Tom and Jake into the center of it. This was one took a little bit to get into, but once it took off it was fast moving and had an excellent storyline. If you’re looking for a creepy read, without the damsel in distress, The Whisper Man is perfect.
