This nifty little plant is actually a fern called Doryopteris pilosa. It is often incorrectly labelled as D. cordata. What you see are the sterile fronds. The fertile fronds look much more fern-like and lift well above the rest of the plant, no doubt in order to use the breeze to disperse its spores. Didymochlaena truncatula Hypodematiaceae（キンモウワラビ科） 英名 Mahogany Fern

アフリカから東南アジア、南アメリカにかけて広く分布。 標高200〜1,600mの水が多い林床に自生する。

先月ボルネオのサバ州にて採集した子株。 沢沿いでしか見たことがない。 マレーシア半島で見たときも、渓流に生えていた。

これはとても立派な大株。 一度出会ったら忘れられないほどに印象的なシダ。 羽片が空間を埋め尽くし、まるで青い鱗のよう。

線状のソーラスが規則正しく並ぶ。 葉の色や形がホングウシダ科のLindsaea doryphoraに 非常に似ていて、若く小さなの個体は間違えがちだが 本種はリゾームが匍匐せずロゼット型。 簡単に見分けることができる。

新芽は白い毛に覆われていてかわいい。 海外では園芸用に流通しているらしい。 日本でも広まったら素敵だなぁ(大きな温室が要るだろう)。

半島で採集した個体は 赤玉土単用に腰水管理で調子よく成長したので やはり水が大好きなのだろう。 栽培はヘゴに準じるイメージ。 この個体も養生が終わったら植え替えようと思う。 半島で出会った個体のように、美しく立派になってくれ。
