Goal Setting is one of my favorite topics because it is something that is talked about on a very superficial level. Two quotes come to mind for me when discussing goal setting. “Everyone has a plan until they are punched in the face” and “no plan survives first contact with the enemy”. Why? Most goals are set without much actual thought or planning. If the plan gets punched in the face or goes sideways, gets “too hard” most people will stop pursuing it. They have not planned properly and set high standards for themselves or tied them to something that will push them through when it gets difficult. You have to plan for contingencies so when you do take it on the chin or your first plan (goal) starts taking hits, you can pivot and keep moving forward. Motivation is BULLSH*T. It is not going to keep you going when you get “cold, wet, and sandy”.
