EBUG: (n) Hockey slang for "Emergency Backup Goalie". The NHL requires every team to have an Emergency Backup Goalie on call in case a goalie on the home or visiting team can't play. And for the San Jose Sharks? The EBUG is Chris Chow.

Most Emergency Backup Goalies never get the phone call, but, well.... Chowder's lucky.

17. Name a fic that made you laugh a lot.21. Do you read crackfic?22. Name a few of your favorite crackfics.

I SEE THERE IS A THEME HERE. i don’t – not read crackfic!  they’re not my preferred type of fic, but only because i am a pretentious fuck whose favorite plot is “character is depressed, and then maybe some misery sex.”  HAVING SAID THAT, here is a spread of some fics i have genuinely laughed at multiple times, because i do think it’s a very much underappreciated skill to craft humor that can stand up upon repeat reading:

- the werecock fill from the bbc sherlock kinkmeme

the… truest meaning of crack? listen, if “sherlock holmes turns into a six-foot penis every full moon” isn’t crack, then nothing is.  the early years of the kinkmeme were a v good time for me, and this is a good example of the freewheeling spirit that made the place incredibly fun: OF COURSE IT’S RIDICULOUS, BUT WHY DOES THAT MEAN IT CAN’T BE FIC?  good times <3

- Steve Rogers’ Perfect Ass and Other Workplace Dangers by AggressiveWhenStartled

the sense of comedic timing in this one is truly excellent.  this fic in particular i think very much rewards rereading, because the earlier scenes get a million times funnier when you know what’s going on.  i like the series as a whole because it does some very interesting character work, especially in Super Soldier Drug Reactions and Other Engineering Failures, but workplace dangers has never failed to make me laugh.

- Nights So Slow by jibrailis

a thing that i don’t see capitalized on often enough: victor nikiforov’s sense of the dramatic!  “victor models ninety percent of his behavior on (inaccurate) fiction” is a thing i believe DEEPLY IN MY HEART, and even though this fic tends to lean pretty heavily into the ridiculous, i am fond of stories that let victor be ridiculous and this is a fic that does that well.

hold onto this lullaby

both @dexydex and @pugglemuggle asked for nurseydex in nursey’s pov, so here’s some nursey angst please protect this boy (ao3)

Nursey wakes up to a cool, empty bed and immediately wants to die.

Because, unless the night before had been a dream (a really great, amazing, vivid dream), he was almost certain that he had fallen asleep with Dex curled against him, warm and gentle and kiss-drunk, both of them giggly from delight over shared feelings and exhaustion.

But he was all alone now, Dex’s shoes and bag vanished from where they had been abandoned the night before, no sign that he had ever really been there at all, and Nursey felt the immense, suffocating pressure of his anxiety hit him.

What if he hadn’t meant any of it what if he realized it was a mistake what if he never wants to speak to me again what if what if what if-

Nursey reaches for his phone, yanking it out of its charger and turning the screen on, the ache in his chest getting more painful when he saw there was nothing there.

He swallowed against the lump in his throat and dropped his phone back off the edge of his bed, pulling his blanket over his head and trying to force himself not to think about Dex, or this whole situation, but it didn’t work, leaving him aching and tired and incredibly sad.

He doesn’t know how long he stays curled there, hidden from the world and suffocating from all the thoughts in his head, before he hears the door open and shut.

“I’m ba-Derek?”

Will.

And suddenly Nursey is crying uncontrollably, and he doesn’t notice when exactly Dex crawls under the blanket with him and starts trying to soothe him, but there he is, holding Nursey like he’s something fragile and precious and-

And somehow that makes Nursey cry even harder, every dark, intrusive thought seeming unimportant and false in Dex’s arms.

When he calms down enough to speak, he tries to tell Dex, trying to hide the pathetic whine in his voice, “I thought you-“

“Well, you thought wrong, Nurse.” Dex interrupts, stroking his thumb through the tears on Nursey’s face. “I’m here, and you’re not getting rid of me anytime soon.”

Derek smiles at that, and buries his face into Dex’s shoulder, letting the tension and anxiety bleed out of him as he lies there with proof that he’s safe and warm and loved.
