Love being such a prominent theme in BNW means a lot to me.

It’s love and admiration that pushes Joaquin to follow Sam and follow in his footsteps as best he can.

It’s love that compels Sam to do everything he can to get Isaiah out of prison.

Its love that keeps Sam by Joaquin’s side after he falls.

And it’s the love and support from Bucky that pushes Sam to continue fighting.

Having someone there for him who listened to his fears and comforted him in a time of doubt and relapsed trauma. How Bucky just being there gave Sam the motivation he needed to keep going and finish this mission despite the guilt he felt.

One could even say that that act of love from Bucky is then further pushed and used by Sam and gives him the strength to talk down Ross. Using Ross’s own love and connection to his daughter and the cherry blossoms to calm Ross down. Because Sam was recently reminded himself just how powerful having someone there for him can be. Because Bucky had just done it for him.

Even between characters with animosity towards one another like Ross and Sam; love does not have to be between two characters in order for it to become a motivation for someone to gain clarity of mind. Someone just has to be there and listen.

I think there is something to also be said about how love is its own legacy in a lot of ways. And how Sam’s legacy is one of connection, commonality, and safety in the comfort of those you trust. It’s also that legacy and determination that keeps Joaquin by Sam’s side. Sam carries the actions of his family with him everyday and uses their actions and their devotion to him to push himself forward.
