FROM ONE INDIE TO ANOTHER, ARNOLD REYES IS SO "IN"!
taken from ADC Productions' website: http://journalistasfilmmaker.weebly.com/newsfeatures.html For this space, we asked the artist himself if he could send us some of his promotional and campaign pictures as an artist and a copy of his career history as well. When we finally received the e-mail, we were quite amazed to find out that this accomplished commercial model, a familiar face in many successful advertisement campaigns on television, is also a passionate song writer who earned awards and recognitions for the songs, "Paano Na?" interpreted by Bituin Escalante, "Kung Ako Ba Siya?" sang by Piolo Pascual and "Hanggang Saan, Hanggang Kailan?" interpreted by Ogie Alcasid in various competitions including the First Mang Levy Celerio Song Writing Festival. Yes, Arnold Reyes wrote those songs! But his passion for music transcends to another form of art as well--the world of acting. A veteran of many theater productions including the well-loved "Zsa-Zsa Zaturnah Ze Musikal and the highly acclaimed "Pilipinas Circa 1907", Arnold is also in the cast of the highly rated television show, "Betty La Fea" of ABS-CBN. But while he is at home with theater productions and a remarkable presence in TV productions, it is in indie films that Arnold found his niche. A favorite of many indie filmmakers, Arnold has done many before PUNTOD but the excitement and the commitment that we saw in him was nothing less than exceptional. Indie Films continue to flourish because of actors like Arnold who not just lend their God-given talent but also their commitment to the entire process of this new genre of movie-making that is now taking waves especially in the local film industry. In ADC Production's PUNTOD, Arnold plays the role of Johnny. We remember him coming onto the set for the first shooting day as this dashing male dressed in jeans and t-shirt, who casually walked into the set, sans "alalay", all by himself, carrying his costume for his character portrayal and looked at ease right in the heart of TONDO bonding with some of the barangay kagawads in the area and actually making friends with them! When his take came, we watched with awe, from Arnold, he became Johnny, and looked and acted the nuances of the character, heart, body and soul. It would have been a big mistake had we cast someone else for the part. We are confident that his portrayal of Johnny will once again highlight his versatility as an actor and pave the way for more engagements in other productions of independent films. Arnold Reyes is one name in the industry that will stay for a long time and in the few days that this production worked with him, we immediately saw that distinct character that would make him last in the biz: he came not as a star, but as an actor, ready for his take, ready for his portrayal, a real artist indeed.
"PUNTOD" (Baby's Tomb) - Trailer
Baby is a ten year old deaf mute who was born amidst the stench of poverty. Destitution was her first teacher. The cruel realities of life were manifested to her through her gift of sight. Baby's sister is a prostitute. Snatching was her young friends' means of livelihood and sniffing rugby was their favorite pastime. But Baby saw all these through the eyes of an innocent child. Using her eyes as her guide, Baby swam the murky waters of Manila Bay gathering plastic bottles and empty cans to save enough to fulfill her only goal in life - to pay for a tomb to put her mothers bones in. And while she worked to accomplish this dream, Baby kept her mother's bones hidden in the only place she knew it would be safe. Meanwhile, Baby saved every centavo she could to buy her mother a decent resting place. With her health compromised, two of her friends decided to help Baby speed up the fulfillment of her dream. One of them loses his life - the other, forever scarred with the loss of a friend. Baby's Tomb is a picture of Philippine poverty where social injustice looms its ugly head over the underprivileged who live and die knowing hunger, deprivation and hopelessness. directed by cesar apolinario executive producer arlyn de la cruz
