From what I’ve thinking, they don’t reproduce by replicating but the traditional way hence their can lineage and royalty
Yumyulack was sent from his family to train to become a knight but he’s just squire right now and absolutely hates it. He dreams of running away and becoming a mercenary. He trains under Korvo who of course is super strict which drive Yumyulack crazy.
Jesse’s situation is a little more complicated. She’s the illegitimate daughter of the king and everyone knows it. The king doesn’t acknowledge her existence and most of the kingdom treats her poorly except Terry who adores her and dotes on her. She’s not suppose to be in the castle yards but Terry sneakers her in (with Korvo’s help)
Yumyulack and Jesse met while Jesse was sneaking out and they both lament to each other about their situations. They soon became close friends.
