I LOVE the Beatlettes au! I would love to have more in depth info/basic lore abt this au Plz!! <3
I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!
Ah thank you! I’ll be honest I don’t have the most in depth information to give about it, but I do have some rough concepts? Also sorry if this is rambly (also full credit to the anonymous asker who originally asked for girl Beatles that gave me this idea in the first place)
So Yoko Ono and Linda Eastman meet in the US and at some point form The Beatlettes around 1961 Yoko’s around 27 or 28 and Linda’s 19, (they would obviously have additional members, from whatever they’re version of the Quarrymen was. Who would those members be? Great question, I have not thought about this too in depth.) they obviously at some point go to England and meet Pattie Boyd who’s around 17, then in 1962 they bring on Maureen Cox who’s 16
Here’s some Teddy Girls I never finished, Mo’s not here because she’d come later
I think Linda and Yoko’ll still get married to their prior husbands (Melville See, and Toshi Ichiyanagi and Anthony Cox respectively), though them being in the US probably makes it a bit complicated? The problem with The Beatlettes is Linda and Yoko aren’t UK natives so trying to figure out how early stuff would work out, such as the early years of the band and their marriages is a bit tricky because, for example Linda would both be pregnant in 1962 as well as recording “Please Please Me” and travelling to and fro the US and UK 😵💫 (unless Melville decided to move with her)
Anyways the Beatlettes become global superstars their concerts are chock-a-block o’ blokes all crazy for them, they have wildly successful albums, have films created starring them, get stalked and mobbed every time they try leave the house it’ll be almost exactly like how it was for the lads except this time it’s for the lassies (#feminism)
Now seeing as the girls became big celebrities what became of their husbands? I had some ideas
For John Lennon I picture him as a writer, he wants to be a poet and does that in his free time but he’s professionally a journalist to make ends meet for his wife Cynthia and son Julian, he probably sees potential in getting a story about the Beatlettes so he goes straight to Linda Eastman’s door and asks about having an interview, she tells him that Yoko might be interested in giving him one as she is not, and from Yoko, John gets out a lot more than he came in for ;)
As you can imagine, it’s just as messy as it was with The Beatles, Yoko brings John with her to the studio all the time and drives the band mad, Yoko and John go through some very messy divorces, Linda writes a song for Kyoko, and then not a lot changes after the Beatlettes, they still advocate for peace via their unusual methods, form the Plastic Ono Band, though they swap roles, (only slightly really, Yoko’s on guitar and John’s on percussion) they make albums and songs together and separately, though obviously they swap the albums and songs (For example Yoko makes Mind Games and John makes… Mind Train… oy vey…)
Ringo Starr starts his own Beauty Salon in Liverpool, that Mo turns up to one day. And for Ringo this is a good opportunity as getting a member of this band, that obviously won’t be a global success no, but y’know in Liverpool, The Beatlettes are very successful and where his salon is, and that’ll drive business to his business so he’s more than happy to have Maureen come in. They get together and then The Beatlettes have become an international hit and now everyone wants to come to his salon to either sit in the seat of a Beatlette or attack him for taking their beloved Mo away from them! The chances are he’ll probably eventually and unfortunately have to shut down the business for his own safety (and in case you’re wondering what that address is for the boutique, it’s actually the location of the Beatles Story! I thought it’d be a fun little detail to include)
I don’t have a lot more information to give on Maureen and Ringo, I imagine the Beatlettes would like him the same way the Beatles seemed to like Maureen, and I can’t think of what would change after the Beatlettes other than it’s Mo releasing the albums instead of Ringo
For Paul McCartney I thought about him becoming an art teacher, and he’s confident enough to one day submit his portfolio of sketches and paintings to try and get into the Sgt Pepper’s launch party to try and paint the Beatlettes ladies, he still meets Linda at the Bag O’ Nails, and Paul still manages to get into the Sgt Peppers launch party (they go to the party in every timeline…) and of course, Paul’s pupils will catch wind of his and Linda’s relationship and God help him once they do…
And then they get married Beatlettes fall apart, Paul and Linda make RAM (though maybe it’s COW this time? And instead of Dear Boy I imagine it’ll contain either I Got Up or Endless Days) go onto form Wings, though this time Linda’s the front woman whilst Paul’s on keys and a background vocalist, and he later goes on to release his only album Wide Prairie (or a similarly titled album seeing as we don’t really have prairies here in the UK? So… Wide Grassland? Yeah Wide Grassland) all in all besides the Beatlettes stuff, like John and Yoko, not a lot changes for Paul and Linda besides their roles in Wings I suppose (and I can see it being Paul who wants to form Wings instead of Linda to be honest)
And finally George I imagine he’d end up a technician he’d probably be called to work on A Hard Days Night, in case any of the technical stuff gives way and there he’ll meet Pattie and like Ringo and Mo I don’t have much to really say on them either, not because I don’t have much to say on Pattie and George just once again not sure how much they’d change besides “Pattie’d release music instead of George” maybe the love triangle would be different? Someone would be vying for George’s affection rather than Eric vying for Pattie’s? Or maybe it’ll be the same again with Eric wanting Pattie. I’m sorry I can’t think but if you have any ideas I’d love to hear them
Another thing is with The Beatlettes is I can’t decide if I want everything to be the exact same just now there’s the Beatlettes instead of the Beatles (so for example Brian Epstein’s still their manager, George Martin’s still the producer etc), or if I want it to be so that every band’s member has been swapped with (one of) their partner(s) (so for example Marianne Faithfull takes Mick Jagger’s place in the Rolling Stones) either way, it sounds fun.
But yeah that’s really all I’ve got, it’s both simultaneously not a lot but also wow that was a lot!. I somehow managed to write more about the men in my women post (#misogyny) if there’s any specific questions feel free to ask (there are some things I’m not willing to answer on, for example deaths whilst I was able to mention Ringo being attacked, talking about their deaths feels a wee bit gratuitous in comparison I guess, y’know?)
On a final note one thing I can say for sure would happen is Ringo would get less monthly listeners on Spotify than Linda and Yoko… oh wait
