PUSH (2009) "did you push me?" "don't like it? push back."
Making a cinematic universe of generic action movie superheroes
push (2009)
SO!
I watched Push (2009) the other night, and because I'm ✨Like This✨ I began having Thoughts.
"What kind of Thoughts were you thinking of," you might ask, "that would warrant such capitalization?"
WELL.
Welcome to the list of the kinds of psychics that show up in the movie (there are a few more in the prequel comic, but as I haven't read it, I'm not using them)(wanting to find it, though, because this world is interesting) and which LU character would have which power in an AU where the Chain are in this world/kinda deal!
Psychic Abilities and the Common Names for People with These Powers:
Watchers - These are people who can see the future in visions and can track people down using these visions. There is the caveat that the future is always changing, and one's decisions do change things. Their power can be circumvented by either getting a Shadow (#6) to hide you or by not making any decisions until the decision is right in front of you.
Movers - Basically, telekinetics. They can make shields with their power and move stuff around, not really anything too fancy (though there are cool scenes with floating guns)
Stitches - These are the healers. I don't know the full extent of what a Stitch can do if they're super good or whatever, but they can heal quite a bit of damage, and they can also inflict it. They can reverse the healing they've done.
Bleeders - These guys have one of the dumbest names in the movie, because they have little to do with blood at all. They're basically Black Canary from DC. They scream real loud and can burst your blood vessels with it. Honestly, Screamers would've been a bit more suitable, if a bit on-the-nose.
Pushers - No, they don't (usually?) push drugs. These people are some of The Most OP Psychics in this world, and that's saying something when you've got this list of folks. They can Push you: plant suggestions in your mind, implant false memories, stuff along those lines. At least two people are killed by being Pushed to stick their gun in their mouth and fire. Yikes.
Shadows - These people can hide anything and anyone. You don't want to be found by Sniffs (#7) or Watchers? Get yourself a really good Shadow. They have a limit on how much/what radius/distance they can Shadow, but one lady was able to Shadow an entire building from Watchers and Sniffs, so like, limits are suggestions to some MVPs, I guess.
Sniffs - These people can find you by sniffing your stuff. Even if it's been ten years since you touched it (happens in movie!), they can find you if they’re good enough. They're able to see everything you've done with the item (like, a mug you use on a regular basis would show them every instance of you using it, what you've done with it, while touching it/the time very close around it), and they're also able to use it to find you right now. Makes you really careful about what you touch, am I right?
Wipers - We only see the one in the movie, but from what I can gather, Wipers are people who can remove memories. This person is skilled enough to remove a specific time-block of memories (I think even a specific set of memories, like, writing letters and then getting the letter-writing memories wiped, but I’m not sure how specific they get). You’ll wake up with memory loss, but that tends to be the plan, so people don’t tend to freak out (unless, you know, it’s a Wipe done without consent and stuff).
Shifters - Last but not least (of the movie specific ones anyway), we have Shifters. These people have the ability to change how something looks. I don’t know the maximum scale, but they can at least change an object’s size and color, but for only a short period. Guy in the movie could change playing cards from one card to another, but I don’t know if that’s a ‘good at small details but not great at big changes’ thing or if it’s something else.
SO! Now that y’all have received a rough rundown on the (movie specific) psychic powers in this world, here’s what I think the Chain would be (also, one per Link, isn’t that just perfect?)!
Linked Universe Links as Psychics:
(A note: I am liable to make another of these using the comic abilities as well. Also, a couple of these were ‘I don’t really see anything else that would work better without taking from another Link’, so it’s not gonna be perfect. In the event I do make one with comic abilities as well, I think it’ll be better.)
• Time - I think he’d be a Watcher, and I think it’s pretty obvious why
• Twilight - It feels rather on-the-nose (snrk), but I gotta say Sniff, and I’m pretty sure we all know why
• Warriors - He strikes me as a Mover, can you see it?
• Legend - He kinda just makes me think he’s a Pusher, you feel me? (Hehe, makes me think, lol)
• Hyrule - He would absolutely be a Stitch, tell me I’m wrong
• Sky - Sky is a Bleeder/Screamer; my man gets to crash out, as a treat :)
• Wild - My man’s a Wiper, if only for the horrible, delicious irony of an amnesiac Wiper
• Wind - This kid’s a Shifter, because you cannot tell me that he wouldn’t use it to run small cons on people if he had that power
• Four - He’s a Shadow, if only for the nod to a certain someone, y’know y’know?
Thank you for reading this massive infodump about a movie I’ve only watched 2 or 3 times and how I think the Linked Universe Chain would fit in that kind of setting! If you want to talk more about it or whatever, feel free to chat!

I know it's been a month, but could you think of any other headcanons for that one superhero AU idea I mentioned to you? Like one possibility that occurs to me now is Naekusaba with a super-soldier Mukuro and a Sayaka with sonic-based powers.
First of all, you can ask about any AU always, no matter how long it's been, lol! 😁
Ooh, I think my first thought would be to give Sayaka a sort of Emma Frost-style telepathy and/or light mind control (like the pushers in the movie Push), but sonic powers are also very good. She's got to be either an Emma Frost or a Dinah Lance, right? I'm imagining she used to sing for a supervillain or something, in her early days, but now she's a pop sensation and is able to act in accordance with her own conscience. Her hero stuff is secret, though; Makoto's the only one who knows about it.
Mukuro I can definitely see being a Winter Soldier type. She might be ordered to kidnap Makoto as leverage over Byakuya, and then she falls in love with Makoto while he's in her grasp and disobeys orders for the first time to abscond with him to the criminal underground instead of taking him to whoever gave her the orders. (I'm going to say Fenrir is the group commanding her. Junko will be the "reasonable" alternative.)
Mikan with healing powers, not really a hero or a villain. Just a normal person with powers, getting constantly kidnapped by heroes and villains alike because her powers are really useful in moments of desperation. There's hardly a day where she can make it from work to home without being kidnapped because some anti-hero's best friend got stabbed or something. (Mikan getting scooped up by a random biker underling of Mondo's because Taka is hurt.)
Akane has flexibility/stretchy powers. Anti-hero, sometimes dipping into anti-villain territory because villains sometimes lie to her to get her to help them with stuff. Or they just straight-up pay her money. She runs into Mikan a lot just by being so active in the hero/villain world, but she doesn't actually need healing because she's really resilient, so she stands out as the only one who is explicitly nice to Mikan without needing her. (Maybe one day something does injure Akane and Mikan rushes to her side, insert tearful healing scene.)
I'm thinking Fuyuhiko doesn't have powers but Peko does. Peko can curve projectiles through the air, in addition to her practiced skills with melee weapons. They're villains. Natsumi's still dead (or she's in the Mr.-Freeze's-wife zone of being constantly almost dead) but Sato is alive; she's kind of Mahiru's MJ, in that she's a normal person who doesn't know the hero secret and gets to be endangered by hero stuff so there are stakes. Mahiru and Nagito are saving Sato from stuff all the time.
