Far be it for Vincent to be nervous, but apprehension was coursing through his blood in an intensely uncomfortable manner, every hair upon the back if his neck standing on end. Maybe it’s just me, but the canon reactions of Ignis and Gladiolus to Prompto’s Nif background has always struck me as OOC. I can forgive Noctis to yet still be trusting toward Prompto because the man is one of the oldest, sincerest friends he has. But I cannot forgive (or at the very least, excuse it) with Ignis and Gladiolus, who were not just charged with the Prince’s life, but his safety. Really? No suspicion at all? Even a smidgeon, or iota? Does this mean then, that the lack of these reactions hint at something: that Ignis and Gladiolus are actually incompetent on their jobs.

You never can build a relationship on a notebook, one-liner sentences and stickers.

Father-son sweetness? What father-son sweetness are you talking about? If there were enough father-son sweetness between Regis and Noctis, then that parting at the Prologue would have gone differently. All I see is a prince eager to leave a box he has been imprisoned into for most of his life. Didn’t even hug his old man good bye.

     Zack wants to be angry; rage boils up beneath his skin, turns his stomach molten and his vision blurry, only to fizzle when he looks at Nero’s face. How can he throw his glorified morals at someone who’s never been shown decency in order to emulate it? How can he bare his teeth and raise his voice at a person twisted and shredded up inside the way Nero is? He didn’t choose to exist in a den of monsters; he just survives it. Zack wants to hate his impassive expression and the cold way he dismisses the slaughter around them, but instead he’s only numb.      He clenches his fists and turns decisively away, gaze hard on the spot where the nearest body was devoured by the darkness. He can’t look at Nero right now; can’t reconcile his ridiculous urge to protect this deadly person with his disgust at that callous lifestyle. All he can smell is the rot of death. One of the ‘underlings’ screamed ‘til their voice broke and it still echoes in Zack’s ears. All these lives lost. He feels sick. Can’t show it, though; it’d be perceived as weakness and if he’s learned anything in this shithole, it’s that he can’t be weak.       “I understand the need for killing, you know,” he says finally, tone deceptively even: controlled. “I’ve taken lives when it was necessary. I’d take lives to get out of this place.” He’d take lives for the escape of the Tsviets, because he cannot stop seeing them as victims. “Doesn’t mean I have to like it. I told you I can’t change who I am, didn’t I? No more than you can.”

      while his bid for attention is genuine, there’s underlying motive: a gentle tug at nero’s single-minded focus, subtly inserting breaks so he doesn’t work himself to exhaustion. if allowed, zack knows he’d research and analyze and decipher ‘til he either passed out or successfully crafted some method of destroying the toxin eating away at weiss. zack wishes he could be more helpful there; wishes his brain were wired for science or the components of toxins instead of only battle. 

all he can do is linger in nero’s space, still vaguely amazed even after all this time that he’s welcomed there. he leans his cheek into nero’s touch like a cat seeking affection.

“what a coincidence. you have my attention, too.”  with a contented sort of hum, he shifts ‘til he can prop his head against nero’s shoulder. “... how’s it going? any breakthroughs?”
