Just to clarify for anyone confused about Australian political parties and their ability to vote for a new leader internally and not through public election; Australia follows a hybrid of the Westminster style of government, so the public votes for representatives in the seat they reside in. Those reps can either be independent, or aligned to a party, such as Labor, Liberals, or The Greens. The party who holds the majority of seats at the end of an election, becomes the new government. That party then chooses from its representatives who will be party leader, and therefore Prime Minister. We DO NOT vote for a specific person to be Prime Minister. We vote for a specific person to represent our local area(s) in the House of Representatives.
