Would You Recommend:
This album opens with a number that sounds out of a 1920s vaudeville show. The second song is a very modern take on what sounds like an old Irish jig. I've never been to Ireland, but every stereotypical depiction from the shows my wife watches, this is the type of music that would play when the female lead first meets the rough around the edges hero and the meeting is a complete disaster. He usually ends up wet somehow, falls in a fountain, has a pitcher poured on him, or she dumps a bucket of milk over his head and the screen pans in on his dopey smile as the fire gets stoked and he thinks hot dang she is the woman for me. The music might also be background noise at a Renaissance fair. If I actually read the cover before now, I would have realized that “most of these dance tunes come from a series of Dancing Masters…by John Playford in 1651.” So, this album is a modernization of old songs. Either way, it is not something I will reach for often, but it was upbeat while still being soothing. Musically, it was interesting. This was a good listen.
Don't take my word for it listen for yourself and tell me what you think.
