whats the byjove situation? Never heard of him til now
Eh a week~ ago byjove made a post seeming on the fence about trans men speaking up for themselves. That's the seemingly "innocent" post to me, he was "calling out" misogynistic trans men... With no screenshots. I didn't want to deny his experiences outright so I remember my comment on byjove's post being, "so glad we're not summarizing a whole demographic based on one asshole haha" just for this all to immediately happen.
4 days ago I believe byjove compared the experiences of his passing self and a non-passing trans women's hypervisibility. Basically playing it off like he had it easier and ignoring his non-passing trans brothers (ignoring POC especially) saying that his experiences aren't universal.
The trans man reblogged said post and said, "wish I had your (byjove's) experience, mine is trans women wanting me dead" implying theirs is worse which is an asshole move in the first place and over generalizing a demographics' opinions... but byjove, a fellow trans man, decided to make it even worse by sharing a meme that demonizes all men, including themself. The meme being a guy with a gun to his head. That's suicide baiting to me, point blank.
I would provide the screenshot of the original post that to me seemed innocent but I don't feel like scrolling past 100~ posts on my blog as I got a queue that post 20 times a day. Plus I've been going crazy on the transandrophobia posts this week so it's a needle in a haystack because Tumblrs app wont let me search usernames on my blog. Unless the name is typed in the post itself.
The whole suicide baiting reblog chain was just a pissing contest of "who has it worse", with no actual comparison based on SOUND & WELL-ROUNDED statistics or how to show ACTUAL tangible support for both transwomen and men other than saying "shut up those One Trans Men™". (Edit: which is usually code for trans men speaking on transandrophobia, not actually misogynistic trans men.) Just another way to tell transmascs and nonbinary peeps to shut up.
Buddy when you have a pissing contest you gotta be ready for it to land. So aim your efforts towards actually making support networks and opening communication, rather than aiming for the separation of trans men's and women's experiences. Otherwise you're pissing on yourself @byjove
