“STAR CATCHER”
by Rustam QBic
Born in 2013 out of a desire to get busy Portlanders to pause in their daily lives long enough to take in their city Forest For The Trees has become a Northwest institution. Painting at SW Park Ave between Main and Salmon in 2015, Russian surrealist Rustam Kubik, aka QBic, took the festival’s vision a step further, not just looking beyond trees to see the forest, but the whole universe beyond. From Kazan, Tatarstan—about 500 miles east of Moscow—QBic studied at Kazan Art College then went on to teach at the Children’s School of Design, perhaps explaining what Beautiful Decay describes as work “saturated with lush storybook colors and defined by a playful sense of the absurd.” Street Art Rat says QBic’s complex works are loaded with details and worth looking at up close whenever you get a chance. @rustamqbic @ffttnw
