Author’s Note

”It’s difficult to create a world by yourself so let’s just imagine Qingchan to be a bard of Mondstadt lmao”

Originally, they are an OC independent from (though largely inspired by) Genshin Impact, but I’ve always had trouble writing about him because of the lack of worldbuilding. I’ve decided to insert them into Mondsdtadt to familiarize myself with their personality.

To fit Mondstadt’s German-inspired culture, his original Chinese name 青蝉 (Qingchan) and his lute, 鹦琴 (Yingqin) are translated to Azurblau Zikade and Der Papagei. I don’t know much German, so forgive me for any mistakes in translation.

Pronouns: he/they

Species: Fox

Chinese Name: 青蝉

German Translation: Azurblau Zikade

Lute’s Chinese Name: 鹦琴

German Translation: Der Papagei

(The Parrot—> 鹦鹉—> a lute—> 鹦琴)

Oh also Qingchan doesn’t speak so no need for a mouth. Wonder if their handwriting actually looks like a gothic horror font or if it’s just my handwriting…

Oh and Yingqin’s and the Rabbit Poet’s outfits are both based more off of 17th (?) century British fashion, but for Qingchan I was first thinking about how Chinese fox spirits are portrayed and went on a search.

I initially searched 狐狸精 but that’s become a vulgar slang so the image results weren’t good. Eventually after unsatisfactory results on animal-based wuxia character designs I just straight up searched wuxia costumes and the results showed Word of Honour (山河令) and that went into a spiral of how 温客行 has 16 different outfits throughout the show so I referenced off of one of his

And a scarf. Qingchan’s major design inspo was actually Genshin Impact’s Tomo / Kazuha’s friend. Their first design in this small comic looked a lot like Tomo’s outfit but I realized Tomo and Inazuma are based off of Japanese culture and Qingchan is Chinese so it’d be weird to pull inspo from Tomo’s design
