Heads up to other yarn users: Knitpicks Wool of the Andes Superwash says you can wash it on delicate cycle.
This is what happened after I followed the label instructions and did exactly that.
This blanket was MONTHS of work, and the person who commissioned it has fully paid me for it. It was going to go into the mail last Friday. I washed it on Thursday in anticipation, figuring I might need to make a couple of small repairs since it’s corner-to-corner crochet and it’s not uncommon for a few ends to work themselves free the first time you wash something.
This is absolute destruction. I have to re-make the entire thing. Luckily, my customer is very understanding and willing to wait even longer to get their blanket.
I am very, very good at crochet. There was give in these stitches. It laid flat just fine before washing. Nothing about the construction explains this level of damage from a single, label-folllowed wash. This is a quality issue with Knitpicks. I’ve sent them an email about it. I’m beyond angry especially because I find the yarn lovely to work with, but now I don’t know that I’ll ever trust it again.
At least Bean is pleased she has a new blanket. She doesn’t care there are huge holes all over it because I trusted the label. She just likes that she can dig all over it and settle down.
