Now I'm really digging into the past. Here is an interview Jenna Coleman (or, rather, Jenna-Louise Coleman as she was then known) gave on Loose Women (the UK equivalent of The View) that was posted to Youtube by a Loose Women fan channel 14 years ago. This was before Waterloo Road, before Room at the Top, before Doctor Who, before Captain America even. She was on the show because on Emmerdale they were about to launch the storyline in which Jasmine Thomas and Debbie Dingle were about to start a love affair, apparently the first LGBTQ2S+ storyline on that type of show, which was a cause celebre back in the late 2000s.
Jenna talks about her background and how she attempted 7 times to go to drama school but ended up taking the Emmerdale job instead. This being Loose Women they take a stab at asking about her love life and then she gets shocked by them talking about something called "popping" (the video doesn't elaborate though it might be related to farting). She talks about being ladylike. And acts very confused when she's asked about playing Rizzo in a production of Grease - which she was never in (the interviewer tries to cover the mistake but Jenna laughs it off and mentions how a researcher asked about her gran's plastic surgery. "Has she?"). She then goes on to discuss a harrowing scene she filmed for the show.
It's amazing to see how she's evolved over the years. Not just in her fashion sense (the jeans look was her thing for her first couple of years on Emmerdale), but just knowing this is Jenna at the dawn of her career. She looks and acts so differently now - we all change over time - but at the same time, this is Jenna.
