Queen Luise of Prussia Portraits by Johann Heinrich Schröder, circa 1800
Historical Figure Tag Game
I got tagged by the absolute marvelous and one and only @allergy-sufferer-emo-wanderer to ramble about my favorite historical person.
Enjoy!
1. Who’s your historical person?
Luise Auguste Wilhelmine Amalie of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, duchess of Mecklenburg, or better known as; Queen Luise of Prussia
2. What is it about them that draws you to them like a magnet?
Unlike many royalties at her time, especially women, she and her husband Frederick-Wilhelm III. were very close to the people in their kingdom
3. Favorite thing about them?
Luise was a typical mom and a caring personality for her husband, children and the people living in Prussia. She could basically kick people’s asses while breastfeeding her children and leading the Prussian armies into war.
4. Least favourite thing about them?
Okay, here’s the thing, even if it’s not critical of her as a person; the way everyone ignores her AND her husband.
They were important figures of history especially at a significant point such as the wars under Napoleon. Yet they’re not taught about or even mentioned in history lessons, they were basically erased from history and are never given credit for their actions.
5. If you could fix one thing for them?
She died of pneumonia and left her family and people at the early age of 34, I would’ve liked for her to live a long and happy life by her beloved Frederick-Wilhelm’s side.
6. If you could change their history, would you? If so, what?
Napoleon threatened to attack Prussia when these two very young people were only ever starting out their family life. Luise and her husband barely ever had time for themselves and their family, even though it was very clear that they were one of the, if not the most, close and loving family inbetween all Prussian monarchs.
7. First thing you would say to them?
Honestly? I probably wouldn’t say anything because I’m way too much of an anxious mess but if I would be able to say anything I’d probably compliment her
8.Bring them to 2017 with you…what would that look like?
As a woman who helped her husband through more than one political crisis, she would be amazed to see women so invested and included into politics as they are today, especially with women at the top of countries.
9. What WOULDN’T you tell them about the future?
Literally all German/Prussian history up until 1990, neither of us needs an existential crisis.
10. Favorite story about them.
During a time of threats against Prussia, like there’s never been before, from the most powerful man at the time, not the king, but his wife was supposed to decide the destiny of its future. The whole thing was supposed to happen over a feast. Napoleon himself was immediately astonished by her beauty and intelligence.
Throughout his last years on St.Helena he wrote the following into his personal journal “Despite all my given dexterity and effort, she oncontinuingly proved herself to be the lead of our conversation and evermore brought the discussion back to her own favored subject.”
and, my personal favorite quote regarding her “Instead of taking a crown from her, you were tempted, to lay her another one down to her feet.”
11. Reblog with a picture or painting or depiction of them.
by Josef Maria Grassi ( 1802 )
I’m aware of the faxt that she already got tagged, but I’m tagging her again; @bzrava so I can at least pretend to have friends!
However, feel free to do this wether you got tagged or not! I would’ve tagged all of my mutuals, but I’m not sure if any of you is into historical stuff, so if you are: you’re tagged now, go and do it!

Napoleon, sending Luise into exile: Get outta here, this is my place now. And take your pathetic bisexual man with you.
Napoleon: Get on your knees!
Luise: What, so we can finally see eye to eye?
