yes this one is very recent and tbh i am. STILL going insane about it. AND ABOUT PINA'S ART ABOUT IT!!! idk what to even say about like i think it speaks for itself LMAO i feel like i did a very solid job balancing Hotness with Character Study and also indulging in being insane. idk gang i cooked with this one!!!! iunno what to say!!!!! three course meal at LEAST!!!!!

Birdsong Devotionals - hansry, experimental vignette character study

i really like this one........... i think the idea was solid and the execution was also solid. double character study of hans and henry via how hans views henry through the lens of the different smells hans notices. very out-there concept but it was so much fun writing, and i really enjoyed challenging myself to Keep It Short and not fucking YAP like i always do. and i think i broke out some real nice poetic language in there. i like it a lot!!!!!!

A Consideration of Teeth - hansry, explicit

cooked with this one too lmao, this ripped itself out of me like the fucking chestburster from alien. genuinely felt deranged while writing it. felt POSSESSED. came out real good tho! if the smut isn't a character study is it even any good. i think the fuck not. more character studies should include armor kink i think

That Which Dies Last - hansry, speculative kcd3 longfic

trying to write the next chapter for this right now LMAO......... the fic that got me writing again!!!!! the first chapters are kinda Rough imo, i was still getting the Gunk out of me, but i think it picks up and hits its stride around chapter 5 (i had a lot of Gunk to get out). i think i especially did a really good job with hans' wedding and with jitka........idk i'm having fun!!! i think it's fun :)

Iced Out! - hansry, hockey au, pre-relationship

literally only like one other person cares about this other than me but i don't care!!!! i wrote this for that one person and for ME!!!!!!!!!!! i love putting characters into situations and sometimes the situation should be Boy Aquarium!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also i experimented with different formatting in this one and i think it was good. everyone should read this and indulge in my hockey brainworms ok we all need to get more hockeypilled NOW

Drop a like there! <3 And if you don’t want to be tagged anymore just unlike the post. c: ) Opening section of the new Jaheira/Khalid fic I've started working on, which has turned out to be a big sucker and for which I have been really enjoying expanding the personalities of the Harper squad I've created for their early adventures. :D Astute Khalid-knowledgable readers (to whom I haven't already rambled about this fic) may be able to guess the context for this scene. XD

Jaheira hisses with pain, fisting her fingers into the thin sheet draped over the medical cot.

"Aye, I know," mumbles Reeda. The young halfling cleric has the tip of her tongue stuck out between her lips, her eyes narrowed with concentration as she delivers another healing spell into the wound in Jaheira's gut. "If ye'd fallen back an' come t' me when the blow was first struck, this would be hells of a lot easier. Ma’am," she adds as a distracted afterthought.

Jaheira grunts. "The battle needed finishing," she mutters through gritted teeth. The words are a little slurred from bloodloss, undermining any attempt at bravado.

"Spoken like a Harper," Reeda quips dryly, not looking up. “I know damn well there wasn’ even supposed t’ be a fight. Commander Vartan said--”

“Vartan did not know what we were facing.” Jaheira scowls, but can't maintain the expression for long. The makeshift medical tent gives a lurch around her as her head sags back against the pillow behind her. 

Reeda’s right, of course. Their little team of Harpers was assigned to nothing more than a simple fact-finding mission, investigating reports of bandit attacks on the small farming settlements south of the Chionthar. And simple it seemed - right up until the first arrow caught Kambas in the shoulder. The battle that followed was swift and brutal - and a Harper victory, but a very near one.

"They are not simple bandits," Jaheira mumbles. The instinct to give a crisp, accurate report is deeply ingrained; even the pain in her abdomen can’t quite blot it out. "Slavers on… on an advance scouting run… by all evidence. There were… skilled mercenaries among them."

"Must've been, to puncture you proper." Reeda shoots her a slight grin, but her eyes are troubled. "Arvul,” she snaps over her shoulder. “I need somethin’ t’ stem the bleeding, dammitall.”

“Almost done,” Arvul grunts. Jaheira is dimly aware of the hulking half-orc ranger lurking in the shadowy corner of the tent, mixing a potion with quick, deft movements. 

Reeda rubs a hand down her face. “Good. And then change th’ dressing on Kam's shoulder and check on Freya’s leg. An’ make sure Mouse is still conscious; I told her not t’ go t’ sleep with that concussion.”

Instinctively Jaheira tries to turn, to check on her injured comrades, but the world sways violently again with the attempted motion.

Reeda delivers her a brisk slap on the shoulder without looking up. “Stop stlarning moving, Jaheira! Worry about yerself for once,” she says sharply. “Gods. ‘s like treatin’ a bunch a’ children.”

Another flare of blue light lashes from her palms over the wound; the pain recedes slightly although not the dizziness. The cleric sighs. “That’ll have t’ do. I’m near tapped out.” She squints at Jaheira. “Got luckier'n ye think, ma’am. Magic or not, a gut wound's no joke. Need ye t' rest here overnight with a few potions in ye, if I'm t' have ye up and runnin' again by morning."

Jaheira grimaces. “You know… that I prefer sleeping out of doors..” she says vaguely.

Reeda looks around at the canvas walls of the little medical tent, which ripple gently in the brisk wind pouring through the valley from the north. “I think ye’ll survive just this once,” she says dryly, and shoves a small vial into Jaheira’s hand.  "Just lie still, drink this, try not t' move around too much till it's sealed itself up, aye? Done what I can for the pain. And maybe next time, avoid the pointy end of things." A pause. “Ma'am.”

Before I wrote A Pot to Piss In, I dug pretty deep looking for Sera genfic that dealt with her childhood and Lady Emmald and was frankly shocked at how little I could find. I know she's a pretty niche character, but still, it's been a decade the game's been out! And the few canon details we have about her childhood are so interested to me.

22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

I think the political writing in Dragon Age is generally underappreciated. I'm certainly not going to argue that it's perfect, but I think there are some places where the games and the supplemental media too really shine at portraying the intricacies of politics, the nature of power in various systems, oppression as systemic and not simply a matter of personal prejudices, and the difficulties of gaining and wielding power and the compromises that often requires. Some of my favorite bits are Orzammar (particularly the Aeducan origin but also the scant bits of information you can actually glean about the candidates for the throne as a non-Aeducan), Anora's rescue and the Landsmeet, the relationship Hawke has to the nobility and the conditions under which they may support Hawke, Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts, and of course The Masked Empire my beloved.

This was the first fic I'd posted in over 4 years, having orphaned or deleted all of my work from 2015-2017(?). Letting people read my writing again was terrifying but I got so much positive feedback (especially from @queerspacepunk) that it helped me get my confidence back as a writer. I had a great time working with Ty on it as well and I rlly do owe them my life for their help with the dialogue and their ability to give critical feedback in a way that wasn't discouraging.

Kiernan and Solas are so very dear to me and it was so exciting to have a completed fic with them that I could share with others. Some good old fashioned h/c and mutual pining as the set up for a fic that's mostly centered on how people talk about and cope with mental health and trauma in Thedas. with april an ocean away | M/M | G | 1,828 | Adaar/The Iron Bull (/Dorian Pavus)

Writing about Ehsaan's specific struggles with mental illness has been harder for me than writing about Kiernan's because they're much different than mine, but I try to do a lot of research and the assistance I've gotten from people with OCD has been absolutely invaluable.

I rlly love this fic. It's much lighter in tone than for one to handle but thematically... at least kind of similar? I love Ehsaan, I love writing his pov because he is just. so tender hearted. and I love that when I write things with him, I'm able to indulge in a lot of nostalgia for the place I grew up. One-Word Writing prompts (still accepting!)

Never before have I felt compelled to set my thoughts into writing, yet I now feel I must.

Sulahn's hands have forgotten how to hold a tool for writing, and the small, brittle piece of burned wood is not ideal for the task. The letters are misshapen and cramped on the shred of parchment, ugly and inadequate; how difficult it is to write without the Fade! The years of slavery - two decades, by human reckoning (her reckoning, now; the reckoning of a mortal creature subject to the inexorable flow of time) - have not numbed her to the loss of the world as she knew it. She finds cause to grieve at every turn, and here is another: how even the act of writing has become a dull, lifeless task.

Still.

I have escaped. We live now as fugitives, vagabonds: myself and those I have freed alongside me, many of those who once served with me before the fall of Arlathan and Elvhenan as we knew it.

Before the loss of Dirthamen, but she does not have the strength to write his name. That wound, too, has not grown numb. Perhaps it never will.

They look to me for guidance I do not have. I gather them to me like a mother hen sheltering chicks, but I cannot shield them from the wolf - or the Wolf, though of Fen'Harel, I hear nothing. I do not believe this to be only my own isolation from the news of the world: Fen'Harel has vanished as surely as the rest of the Evanuris, swallowed up by his own scheme. But he is not the greatest threat we face.

In the weak lantern light - they do not dare risk open flame, not so close to human settlements, not when they do not yet know the lay of the land - her hands are thin and weathered, their strength little more than a memory. Her face, too, is lined with the telltale signs of time's march, and her hair, once black as pitch, has grown gray and coarse.

We have stepped into the flow of time's river, and from it, we cannot resurface; we will drown in it, as never we did before. If there is a way to undo what has been done to our world, I fear I may not live to see it done. I fear...

She does not have the strength to write his name, but she closes her eyes and sees him again; him and Falon'Din, as they always were. As they still are, she prays, somewhere deep within the prison built to hold them.

...I fear I will not live to see them again.
