The biggest challenge of sobriety was figuring out what the hell to do with oneself.

Painful as each hour was, Maeve managed to get through them by (much as it made her gag to admit it) following some advice given in each stint she’d had at rehab: structure, habit, routines. (read more on ao3)

Contrary to how it may look (no chapter update in several weeks, only fruitless tumblr posts about how i totally wanna be writing), I am in fact working on #queenlight (not adding any words to my document, but yknow, like, thinking about how I WANT to keep writing)

(No but this is my regular post to reiterate that I am not abandoning that fic but just stymied + brain dead atm. I am avoiding the reality that I know that I NEED to solidly plan the rest of the fic and it most likely needs to be longer still than I have envisioned it. I have learned from this experience that I cannot be a ‘pantser’. The psychological pressure of figuring out the second half after the first is posted and can’t be gone back and tweaked is… not having an encouraging effect on my brain, let’s say. Lmao)

so. it's been a while since I updated my maeveannie fic, and I'm sorry. I don't like to lose steam with a fic because that makes it hard to come back and finish. the reason in this case was I started a new job and then had to move to a new apartment, kind of back-to-back, and the logistics of those things sap the mental and emotional energy in a way that makes it very hard for me to even APPRECIATE creative work, let alone do it myself. I've barely watched any TV in the last month! brain couldn't even settle down to watch little characters, too anxious!

but I'm writing this from my new apartment and making a formal proclamation (tumblr post) that I WILL get myself back in the creative habit and i WILL finish this fanfic. no exact dates yet but I am working on it. i swear.

I also need to watch the first few eps of Gen V but I am a little afraid bc there's a strong possibility that could increase my inspiration/motivation by getting my mind going about the boys universe... OR it could be distracting and off-putting depending on how much I like it. lmao. we'll see.

writing #queenlight and all this focus on Maeve and Madelyn's relationship, especially my first time writing it from Madelyn's POV, has me feeling so torn between getting off-track and expanding upon all my existing headcanons/fic-canon about their history, and... staying on track for this actual fic without throwing in asides and tangents that would be incomprehensible to someone who hasn't read my longfic lol

keep directing myself towards the latter because this story is meant to be accessible on its own, but... damn if i can't help making some allusions and easter eggs for people who have read TMDOMS

ch7 snippet sneak peek to prove I am nearly done with it + There's Only One Hotel Room + also I just wanted to laugh for a moment about my strong personal feeling that in any version of a canon-adjacent universe that takes place before S2 (that is, in a world where Madelyn is alive and Ashley has not taken her job), Maeve does not know Ashley's name. even if Ashley's around and they've been talking. i firmly believe Maeve would never remember her name until the day she becomes SVP
